AMIR KHAN is in talks to fight Vyacheslav Senchenko - the boxer who ended Ricky Hatton's comeback bid.
Talks between the two camps were opened last week in the hope Khan can persuade Senchenko to face him on April 20 at the Manchester Arena - the stadium where Hatton was brutally stopped back in November.
And it is expected Olympic bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo will make his pro debut on the undercard.
Original plans for Khan, 26, to fight again in Los Angeles have been put on the back burner as he continues to rebuild his career following back-to-back defeats against Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia.
Khan is also hoping to convince No 1 target Senchenko to box at light-welterweight - although his rival won the WBA world title a division higher.
Bolton star Khan, who marries Faryal Makhdoom in May, would love to avenge pal Hatton - with Senchenko, 35, holding out for a payday of around £500,000. It looks like being a test for Khan to see how he copes in the welterweight division having fought at lightweight and light-welter since turning pro in July 2005.
Khan outclassed Carlos Molina in 10 rounds last month although ticket sales were disappointing.
Should Khan manage to squeeze past Senchenko, he will then decide whether to operate at welterweight full-time.
Ogogo, who has signed for American promoter Golden Boy, will fight eight times this year - four in the UK. He said: "I want to become Britain's best-ever middleweight.
"That is a massive statement as we have had Turpin, Minter and Benn."
