Amir Khan is ready to move up a weight divison and go straight into a world title fight.

Khan is planning to climb into the ring with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in America in December.

It's a superfight that will represent a real gamble for the 26-year-old Bolton fighter, who is fed-up with trying to make the weight in his 140lbs light-welterweight division.

The former unified light-welterweight world champion is now ready to move up to the 147lbs weight category which will open up several big-fight opportunities.

Alexander is odds-on to win his next fight against Brit Lee Purdy next month - and Khan will be waiting in the wings.

Khan said: "I am going to talk to my trainer Virgil Hunter to see what he thinks about that idea, but I think it will be a perfect fight for me because he has just moved up to 147.

"Plus, I will be more healthy at the weight and happier at making the weight. It's getting tougher making the weight as I get older and fill out.

"It's about making weight right. When you start killing yourself to make the weight, it does make you vulnerable.

"It makes you weaker and it is getting to that stage now in the 140 division. Maybe if I go up to 147 it will make me healthier at the weight and more resilient.

"I know that financially it will be better for Alexander to fight me. We know that because that's what we bring to the table."

Khan has spoken to Richard Schaefer, head of his American Golden Boy promotional team, about the fight.

He said: "We are going to see what the options are but I know that I will be in a world title fight by the end of the year."

Another factor is that Khan has no guarantees of any of the top light-welterweights wanting to fight him.

Danny Garcia is due to face the winner of next month's clash between Lamont Peterson and Lucas Matthysse, with the victor set to meet Khan.

But Khan said: "I could be waiting for the winner who could then decide not to fight me. So where would that leave me?

"I'm done then. That's what Golden Boy said to me.

"They told me that I would have waited all year for this fight and no-one wants to fight me. I would be stuck."

Alexanders power is overrated if anything. Should be an interesting fight but it certainly shows Khan (more likely his team) are ducking the 140 lot in Matthysse, Rios, Garcia and Alvarado - not that I blame them, all four KO Khan.

Devon will be an interesting fight, I pick Devon to win though, Khan's days are done as a world level fighter, he probably gets KO'd. The winner will get Mayweather in another shit fight that Mayweather will win easy.

GBP will probably not let Garcia fight Matthysse either and have him go in an all Argie war with Maidana (which tbf I'm fine with) - matthysse will be ducked like the plague if he does a number on Peterson and most of it will be the doing of his own promoters.

Don't see Alexander as a huge puncher, but he's got respectable pop imo, what I'm saying is People used to base khans chances of success against Alexander on him being able to take his shots but I don't think he would be able to, I also think going up is a bad move as Khan is not that big for 140 and has always struggled against guys as big or bigger than him.

If Hatton hadn't been crap he could have went on a revenge run - Hatton, Khan and then Cotto - would have just been names though as two of them are shot but would have been interesting fights none the less.

Reading this story, it's almost as though Khan went through the list of names at 140 and realised 'bugger, I can't beat any of them, what do I do? I know, I'll blame the fact that everyone from Commonwealth level up can drop me with a jab on being weight-drained for my whole career, and move up to WW. Then when I get sparked in my debut there, I can claim that it was because I was too brave going straight into a title fight for my WW debut. Plus Alexander might take a couple more rounds to KO me than all these LWW beasts, so it's all upside'.
