British and Commonwealth featherweight champion Lee Selby will tomorrow be unveiled as the latest signing for Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing team.

"Lee Selby will box on April 20 in Blackpool, where he will defend his British and Commonwealth titles before going to a show in Cardiff in June, where we'll do a double header with Gavin Rees," said promoter Eddie Hearn.

"He's a great talent Lee Selby and I'm sure he'll go on to be world champion."

Fuck seems Sky Sports have given the money that they'd normally use to buy the NRL Grand Final & State Of Origin Series directly to Eddie Hearn and now Matchroom are buying up all the big names in British Boxing... Chris Eubank Jr., Kid Gallahad & Tyson Fury must surely be next on Eddie's hit list.

I'd prefer Eddie & Matchroom had more of their own fighters like Kal Yafai and brought guys through the system on their own merits but you gotta give it to them they're really putting on decent cards of late and the signings they're making are some of the biggest names in british boxing. And now that Sky have brought back Box Office it's clear to see where this is all going... If we want to watch these fighters we'll have to pay additional fees to get Box Office PPV Events and there will be no shortage of them now nearly all the big names are with Matchroom.

So, Get yer wallets out guys - don't plan any nights out and just get a crate of an unknown brand of beer from the supermarket as you won't afford the decent stuff!

They only "brought back" Box Office because it was the only way to make the Kessler fight happen. It seems they're working within a proper budget now at Sky in regards to their boxing coverage and it's much easier for them to control what's on and when if they're only working with one promoter. I don't see why they'd plan to make any moves to have more shows on Sky Box Office. It would go against what their current agenda seems to be - that's to get the general public more interested in boxing when it's on and build the likes of Brook, Bellew, Frampton etc into household names. Moving to a ppv niche market would just negate that straight away.

June 15th then for the Rees/Selby double-header.

At the press conference, Hearn said: "We've signed some big names and some big champions over the last few weeks but I have to say this one particularly makes me very, very excited. I know Lee doesn't say too much at the moment - that's gonna change over the next few months - but for me, I think we've signed one of the most exciting, promising and talented young fighters in Britain at the moment.

This kid has one of the most exciting styles I've ever seen. He can punch, he can move, he's got swagger. He's got something about him and he is going to be a future champion of the world. I honestly believe that he's got all the skills and attributes to become a world champion and I know that's a bold statement but really that's the ambition.

April 20th in Blackpool, Lee's going to be fighting - most likely defending his British and Commonwealth titles. Joe Murray we think is a very good fight and we'll be making him an offer this afternoon.

Then June the 15th in Cardiff, with Gavin Rees co-featuring, we want to go after the European title and then get him out as quickly as possible giving him plenty of fights and plenty of activity as we strive to win that world title."

I was gonna put some quotes up from Selby but I couldn't understand a word that he said.
