Can not understand this really, Lewis is there just as a bit of hype, but is he going to be a motivational speaker? Coach? Sparring partner? What's the benefit?

Because he can advise Price on what he's doing wrong and what to do right, they are simular size heavyweights and if Price could try to adopt some of what Lennox did in the ring it could massively benefit him.

Personally I think its a good idea but I still expect Price to get KTFO at some point his chin is just absolutely horrendous

but surely that's what his coaches are for? If Lennox coached then I could understand it, but basically he's going over there to be told by Lewis to fight like Lewis.

Oh well I pressumed he would be maybe assisting with coaching, he's basically gona try and help him with his 'big man game' Price obviously can't take on on the chin and so he's gonna try and help him out with fighting at range, using his weight up close etc, I mean it may not help but it can't do any harm!

David Price to train with Lennox Lewis ahead of Thompson rematch

In February, the heavily favored Price (15-1, 13 KOs), 29, was shockingly stopped in the second round by 41-year-old American contender Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KOs). The fighters are now set for a July 6 rematch at Echo Arena in Liverpool, England, Price's hometown.

To help Price prepare for the fight -- and undoubtedly impart some of the wisdom he learned from Steward -- Lewis will come on board as part of Price's training team. About 10 days from now, they will start working together in Canada, where Lewis lived for several years and the country he represented in the Olympics.

"David is a dedicated fighter," Lewis said. "He takes his training seriously and is single-minded in wanting to avenge that defeat. And as a fighter, I understand that and want to help him towards his goal."

Price and longtime trainer Franny Smith have been in talks with Lewis since Price's loss to Thompson.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to be able to work with one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, and I'm sure his knowledge will prove to be invaluable," Price said.

Lewis and Courtney Shand, who was an integral part of Lewis' training team, will work alongside Smith to get Price ready for the Thompson rematch. Lewis said he will also be ringside for the fight.

Sounds like a good move but do people feel this will help Price improve in future?

Its a weird one, I feel it's more of a PR stunt than anything. I imagine Lewis will just tell David the gist of what he did after his losses, get filmed/interviewed watching Price sparring and that will probably be it

Ah my bad. MergeHookBoxing it is :good

As for the umm news. I think it's a weird one. As others have said in the thread, David Price isn't Lennox Lewis (shock) and anything Lewis tries to teach him might not convert across as easily as they assume. But I guess it's still good to have the moral support from Lennox and if he can pass on a bit of useful knowledge then it shouldn't do any harm.

Are they going to spar?

Because even at 47 years old, Lewis going easy would seriously endanger Price's life
 You come across a pretty sad little man Earl. Didn't you say Thompson was a 'disappointing' opponent despite him being a massive step up? :gsg

As regards to Price and Lennox teaming up, I think it's a good idea. Contrary to what Earl may have you believe, Price has shown his talent as a top Amateur and in the early stages of his pro career destroying domestic level fighters. There are clearly things he needs to work on such as the use of his jab, a bit more variety and defensive techniques which Lennox can give advice on.

An ear transplant may help too...

And yes, Thompson was disappointing choice of opponent, he was old, had had his two paydays off Wladamir, and had nothing left in the game really. Showing up grossly out of shape pretty much proved my point, he didn't even come over to win. But after a round in there with Price, he probably couldn't believe his luck. One cuffing slap later and the job was done. I think Thompson was as shocked as everyone else.

I'm not sad about it, I have nothing against Price as a person, he's just no what he was advertised as, by british media and by his fans. He's LEVELS below a lot of the guy's we have who everyone gives grief, but because he's a "nice bloke" he gets a pass. Not from me.

Nice fella, not up to much at the top end of pro boxing. Me and a few others were telling you this after he showed a lot of weakness vs Skelton, the same weakness that resulted in the fact he'd been knocked over by EVERY elite level amateur he faced in the amateurs, numerous times in an embarrassing capitulation.

The few remaining hardcore Pricey fans just don't get it, and still point to his good wins at low level as proof he's something he isn't. Tye Fields banjo'd stiffs too, it proves nothing.

Don't want to get in an argument on here, but it's about time you lot learned your lesson with Price, he ISN'T elite, he's got a Khan level chin, no inside game, barely adequate outside game, no toughness, no fluidity, is rigid and was most likely mentally destroyed by his KO to old man Thompson. He DOES have good power, but that's not going to cut it when you move past John Mcdermott and Matt Skelton.

Hope to high heaven that Maloney has bunged Thompson a few quid to take a dive because if not Price's career will effectively end in the rematch.

"He didn't come to win". Haha ok then if you say so....

Who is LEVELS above him that you are referring to? Haye, the Klitschko's? If so, yeah of course. Povetkin & Pulev look more advanced too at the moment. But please don't say you include a certain Tyson Fury in that group
