According to World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight champion Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno (33-2-1, 12KOs), his team is speaking to Golden Boy Promotions about the possibility of a title unification with IBF champion Leo Santa Cruz (23-0-1, 13KOs). Moreno says the fight could possibly take place in the month of May. Santa Cruz is one of the fighters under heavy consideration for the major event taking place on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The May card will feature the return of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the main event.

Last year Moreno moved up to super bantamweight and lost a twelve round decision to WBC champion Abner Mares. After the loss he moved back down. Santa Cruz stayed very busy last year, picking up five victories in 2012.

This would be a fun fight. Hope it comes off. @Pabby

That is a fucking quality fight!

Moreno is a class class fighter, (I had him a 114-112 loser against Mares, with a bullshit point deducation/knock down along the way, cant remember which).

I hope they make Leo a massive favourite at the bookies

Some people had Moreno top 10 p4p at the Mares fight. I don't know who will be favourite. This fight probably could be evens. I'm looking forwards to it though, and I'd probably pick Leo to win.

I wouldn't have said he was a top 10 fighter, but he would have been in my top 15 at the time, no question.

This could really prove how good Leo is. Mares struggled at times, and he is a quality fighter. I hate to say it, but Moreno may 'expose' him

Yeah, the Moreno - Mares fight was close for sure, and Mares was a dirty fuck. Moreno is a good fighter no doubt. I really don't know who to pick actually. Buzzing for this.

I wonder what @Pabby thinks, since he hates moreno and bums leo.

 I really don't hate Moreno, and never have(please don't bring up clear-cut evidence that suggests otherwise), he was just - in my opinion - very much overrated for quite a while. I did give him a decent amount of credit when he started to improve around the time of the Darchinyan fight on as well.:yep

Santa Cruz didn't look great last time out against Guevara but I think his activity might have caught up with him a bit(I think Guevara was better than most anticipated, too). Otherwise he's a real force offensively without packing a huge amount of one-punch power, and Moreno still doesn't deal with pressure greatly. Would be a great fight if it comes off, close one.

Probably "Hurry up and get this over with so you can move up and I get the vacant belt", hes a good fighter but wont have enough to keep Santa Cruz off of him if he got his shot now
