I'd put him in with any of the top LWW, its a shame he wont get a chance at Khan (should he beat Garcia) or JMM who will be looking for a couple of big name fights before retiring most likely.

Matthysee is a beast though, solid chin, powerful, puts on excellent pressure, can in-fight very well, picks his shots and has a decent defence.

Rios would be an awesome match and I think Matthysee would destroy him, Maidana would be an excellent all Argie bout with two bangers, again I would favour Matthysee.

Other than that there is a rematch there with Judah to be had and I think he would be more than happy to fight the likes of Provodnikov, Alvarado, Olusujen etc.

Guzman would be a good fight as well with the winner really making a statement to the division. Look forward to watching more of him no matter who he fights.

Matthysse definitely should still be unbeaten IMO. Imagine how he'd be looked at if his record was as it should be - 33-0 (29 KO) - with wins over Harris, Judah, Corley, Alexander and Soto. Really deserves a big fight now. I hope he can get it.

I like Rios but without his size advantage he had at 135 he'll struggle, a big strong guy like Matthysse would beat him up I feel.

Maidana or Rios for me.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Bob stick Rios in, sink or swim. The Ortiz fight is seemingly gone for good and having seen Rios lose badly to Abril (despite the scores) he might be prepared to take a risk.

Matthysse would dominate him and get rid late for me.

Maidana would be a guaranteed shootout, one that Matthysse would win in the early rounds, maybe even the first.

The best fight to make would be against Marquez, guaranteed FOTY material right there.... but JMM has both eyes on Pacman, seemingly permanently, and rightly so in many ways.

@Dinamita I agree Matthysse/Marquez would be a classic, perhaps even better then Marquez/Diaz because Lucas has a better chin and power then Juan, I think it'd go to points and I'd slightly favor JMM, but wouldn't be surprised if Matthysse pulled it off.

Matthysse deserves a big fight, he's been hard done by on a few occasions, hopefully he can get a fight with Khan, I just can't see Amir standing up to his pressure and solid power.

Agreed BA.

Matthysse vs that version of Diaz would have been a classic too.

I think Marquez would have too much for him, too clever and a hard enough puncher to get his respect.

He'd shred Khan in pretty awesome style IMO. Peterson was 'on' that night (in more ways than one it seems) but he still resembled a diesel tractor just chugging along in third gear... had little trouble getting Amir where he wanted him. I'd wager that Lucas would catch up to him in the middle rounds and bend him over with body shots, which Amir eats for breakfast.

We've got to be careful not to give Matthysse too much credit for knocking out a smaller man who's probably seen better days, but Soto is a hard man and quite a clever technical boxer... banged out in style... like everyone says he needs a big fight.

I've been singing his praises ever since I saw him edge out a victory over Judah (I gave it him 1 point victory virtue of the knockdown). In that fight he was up against it early on and was being outboxed by a slick technician he couldn't get a hold of but he never gave up and kept pressing eventually turning the fight around.

Against Devon I had him winning 6-4 in rounds with the knockdown being enough to give him a clear victory that baffles me as to the official decision.

Unlike Maidana he actually has proven power at the top level as well. Judah, Corley, Alexander and new Soto have all been put on their arses by this man and none could halt his forward charge.

Khan and Bradley (if he's still in the division) are a clear top two (given the Peterson scandal I can't really put him up there) but this guy is right behind them. If he fought Khan I'd bet my house on him stopping him. Maidana can bark but I don't really see him as having much of a bite. Matthyse would have got Khan out of there in that tenth round.

Lucas should fight an eliminator for the WBO, that way he's guaranteed a belt or a big name. If timbo moves up fully Lucas would see himself awarded the belt setting up a big unification with the winner of Khan-Garcia.

you get some guys who look beastly at a weight, Lucas looks unbeatable to me at 140, it'd take a kinockout shot to beat him imo as noone out there has the style nor legs to keep away from him for a full twelve.

Yeah Soto is a mad man for stepping up to 140, and especially to fight a beast like Matthysse IMO, but I suppose he was chasing some bigger paydays that he couldn't get at 135.

What made me laugh was Rich Schaefers face when Soto' corner stopped the fight, he clearly was hoping Soto would get the W, prick.

Olusegan/Matthysse would be a great fight also, so many good match ups for Lucas out there.

This fight might be the one where Marquez's legs let him down, mind.

Against Pac he was helped by Pac becoming more technically correct and thus predictable, and as the fight became more and more one-sided Manny didn't seem able to rush Marquez like he could in the first two.

Diaz got to him a lot, though it was probably a career best performance from him.

He's not really like anything Marquez has faced lately, so it's hard to guage. If he can take the straight shots up the middle and the uppercuts, he might pull it off.

I thikn in a shootout JMM will have the edge, Matthyse hits like a mule kicks but his shots are wild and his defence is non existant. JMM is deadly accurate, puts unches together better than any fighter currently active and has the power to earn respect. I think punch for punch JMM wil double whatever LUCAS lands and that many clean shots will finish anyone in the division.

That being said, JMM was caught by Katsidis and LUCAS, if he catches him, might be able to force the stoppage.
