With Chavez's ban lasting to june, and macklin saying that his next fight is in june, is this all but confirmed? or am i just going too columbo on this?
either way, what do you think of this fight and who takes it?
I'd go for macklin on points personally
and i havent checked to see if theres already a thread on this so apologies if there is

I think Macklin has too many tools, and is tough enough to last, with a strong, tough but limited JCC Jr and should take a points decision. I would have thought Macklin would go all out to try and get Geale or Quillin, who are both very good but beatable and could set up money fights with GGG or Maravilla as unifications

i'd imagine a fight with chavez jr is always mega money anyhow. and if he wins this perhaps it means more than a geale or quillin victory? all of these fights are good for macklin, disappointed with the inactivity though

I don't think Chavez would take the fight. be good fight for mack to force a rematch with Sergio. the problem is that it's probably going to be Chavez who gets the rematch in the fall. no way after that kind of fight, and a long layoff are Chavez people going to take such a hard fight...

definitely. i just think macklin has too many tools for chavez, he can brawl or box if needed
That's part of the issue for me, he might be too aggressive for his own good.

JCC Jr has his limitations, but when he turns up he's not just some can. He's genuine world level now, physically strong, hits hard, has a cast iron chin and under-rated skills.

If Macklin decides to trade with a guy who comes in to the ring at 180lbs, it could be a long night.

That said - as mentioned - it's definitely winnable. I really rate Macklin, he's one of the better middleweight contenders out there.

i'm not doubting chavez's talent but i think macklin has the intelligence to not stand and trade, he showed that he/his team can come up with a very good gameplan against martinez, wouldnt be an easy fight by any stretch of the imagination though

It was a perfect gameplan but he couldn't keep it going. He faded against Strum too and neither guys are what you call pressure fighters unlike Chavez Jr who will march in all night and eat punches for a laugh.
