he looked crude as hell and was being outboxed with ease, he was going in and out of his stance and off balance coz he was literally running towards peterson and i dont ever remember peterson being a master boxer.

it might be too late but they should send mathysse to Garcia or Roach or one of the other west coast coaches.

I know what you mean, I actually predicted this fight right only because Peterson has always been vulnerable early (Khan, Ortiz, even Holt) and I thought Matthysse would have too much power.

He's a little more skilled than the likes of Maidana though, he'd have no problem dealing with Khan who's so easy to hit and I think he beats Garcia too.

from what I've been hearing from people they were describing mathysse as Chavez sr with the way he's supposed to cut off the ring and have great punch technique and placement.

He can get pretty wild at times but in no way was he being easily outboxed and you know that yourself. Peterson was holding a lot and he ran a surprising amount too. I personally don't find either of those things boring but at one point he did do a complete lap of the ring in about 5 seconds. He wasn't outboxing him at all though, he was surviving.

Matthysse can be wild though, granted. He did a good job at cutting off the ring though and his defence is fairly good if a little basic. He should commit to jabbing more though, he has a sharp and powerful jab when he throws it. It has alright speed too. He usually uses it to set up a right to the body but there were times where he leaped in with a left hook or a right hand when a jab would have set the shots up better. I just fear he's in love with his power like a Donaire or post-prison Tyson.

He is crude in ways, dunno what people have been telling you but he aint no master boxer. Hes fairly solid all round but hes seek and destroy so in most cases you aint gonna see slick and sublime from that style. I disagree with you saying he was outbozed though, he used round one to find his range and then once he did he had peterson beat up in the other two rounds. It wasnt exactly taylor-chavez was it?

How am i ruining it you ass? I'm stating my opinion, am i supposed to agree to all of you?
@Roe
You're welcome to your opinion, I'm welcome to mine.

You title a thread "Matthysse didn't impress me.." after he just knocked out one of the top guys in his division inside 3 rounds. Then you say he was getting "outboxed with ease", despite him dominating from the 2nd round on. As for this line: "he was going in and out of his stance and off balance coz he was literally running towards peterson", I've no idea what you're talking about there.

Edit: scrap that. I thought you were talking about him working with Angel Garcia for a minute then. :patsch My bad. But still, there's clearly no need for Matthysse to change trainer yet. The improvements he's made the last few years have been terrific.

The first round of any fight is often the feeling out round. So what if Peterson took it? As soon as hit the second, Mathysse was in charge and he starched the guy shortly after.

If you're contrasting how high people are on him right now I get it.

But that was a devastating win against a quality fighter. Very few boxers have that in their locker.

I wouldn't say he was being "outboxed with ease", considering Peterson wasn't really landing much himself, but I see where you're coming from. He's obviously more refined than someone like Maidana as Baj said but it's evident that he relies very heavily on his power to carry him through. But y'know, that limited amount of overall skills added to his ample power is probably enough to see him beat just about everyone at the weight.

I don't want to downplay what he did last night though, icing another fighter in and around the top of the division in that fashion is a pretty big statement.

I haven't really been following Mathysse I briefly watched his last 2 fights and the fight with judah and alexander but from what i've been reading i was expecting him to have improved into a cotto like stalker/boxer but he wasn't able to cut the ring off at all.

It's funny though, @chatty writes a quality article about the potential next fights for Matthysse, and gets 1 comment and only a handful of views. Relentless makes a probable trolling thread, gets 17 and counting replies and dozens viewing the thread. And people say boxing forums are crap :-(

Chatty's article btw for those that haven't read it yet: http://checkhookboxing.com/showthre...as-Matthysse-Potential-fights-for-The-Machine
I'm revising maths so I hadn't noticed it yet, will read now! :happy

 What? That's exactly what he did. And if you saw Matthysse's last fight, you'd have seen him do the same against Mike Dallas Jr inside just one round.
