It's a longish one, so the highlights for anyone who doesn't like to read:
Jim Carney's folks come to Birmingham, becoming a giant of a city in the early 1860's.
They shoot out Jim, or "Jem" and he gets drawn into the world of bareknuckle boxing - and absolutely excells.
He kills a guy, gets some stir, goes to America and tears the arse out of the American lightweight scene.
He gets robbed of his chance to beat perhaps the greatest fighter in the world and to this day one of the greatest lightweight champions, Jack McAuliffe, in utterly bizarre circumstances.
He's a fucking badass.
He looks like a trifle.
