LAS VEGAS - Undefeated eight-time world champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather, boxing's pound-for-pound king and the highest paid athlete in the world (Forbes, 2012), has entered into a groundbreaking pay-per-view deal with Showtime Networks Inc. and its parent company, CBS Corporation. Under the new deal, SHOWTIME PPV® will collaborate with CBS Corporation to comprehensively promote Mayweather's events on the CBS Television Network and via the corporation's expansive media platforms.

The deal-a unique revenue-sharing arrangement between SHOWTIME PPV and Mayweather-will enable him to fight up to six times over a period of 30 months, with the first mega-event taking place on May 4, 2013, when Mayweather will fight Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero. More details of this upcoming event will be announced shortly.

Mayweather's new deal is by far the biggest in the sport of boxing (specific financial details are contractually confidential). Mayweather is the PPV king and averages over 1 million PPV buys per event, which is the highest PPV buy average of any boxer in history. At this record-setting PPV performance level, if all six fights contemplated by this deal occur, it will be the richest individual athlete deal in all of sports.

Do you reckon this will make him more active or the '6' number is just the maximum he'll do in that time frame and he'll probably fight less?

Funny that he's fucked off HBO.
I'd be surprised if he managed 6 but as a whole announcing 6 fights in 30 months makes me think he is lining up Marciano's record. Given his age, if he wanted to get to 50-0 he would have to be active

Pretty big news.

I'm also not convinced he'll use all 6 fights but it sounds promising overall. Guerrero on May 4th then Canelo on September 14 sounds good to me for this year then see what's out there next year.

I always love HBO's Mayweather build ups. I don't like Showtime boxing, and if Mauro Ranallo is calling the action, it'll be even worse.

Infact it could be that he's just alienated a bunch of big fights now. Maybe this way he can use the excuse of being on Showtime to not fight people like Alvarez/Khan/Martinez/Pacquiao/Whoever

I much prefer Showtime myself. Fightcamp >24/7, Bernstein> All HBO commentators.
And Alvarez and Khan are on Showtime now. Most GBP fighters are these days.

Pretty big news, I also prefer Showtime, just seems more refreshing than HBO these days. He won't fight the 6 times, it just makes it concrete that his HBO days are over. In fact I think this year will be his last in the sport, and Guerrero & Alvarez/Trout winner is a brilliant way to call it a day.

HBO are gonna be PISSED at losing him, someone over there didnt do their job keeping him signed to them, Hes their biggest cashcow... Other big fighters will go with them just to be featured on his undercards... Him and Cannelo on one bill would Be wicked, shame Michael Buffer wont Be introducing him though, isnt JLJR their ring announcer???

It's bad for HBO, no doubt. They've no excuse not to fuck off Haymon now though since Floyd is likely never coming back. By fuck him off I don't mean refuse to do business but instead they can buy the best fights from anybody rather than buying Haymon's shite only to curry favour with him
