Jaime Munguia has been a mandatory challenger for D. Andrade and Charlo and has declined the opportunity to fight either - Duck
Virgill Ortiz is a mandatory for Bud Crawford but hasn't declined the fight, as well as a fight with Boots Ennis - Duck
Isaac Cruz has turned down the opportunity to fight Shakur Stevenson - Duck
William Zepeda has turned down a fight with Shakur Stevenson - Duck
Jose Ramirez turns down the opportunity to fight Regis Prograis for the title - Duck
Canelo refuses to fight David Benavides and says he won't fight another Mexican fighter, even though he has fought Mexican fighters in the past. Also, Andrade has been trying to get a fight with Canelo for years - Duck

I can name four Mexican fighters willing to risk it all, Benavides, Jo Jo Diaz, Gilberto Ramirez and Juan Francisco Estrada. Canelo has beaten lots of good fighters, and he has taken lots of risks in his career, so he has earned the right to cherry-pick.

I like the title, coli-esque.
I have to agree, the ducking has fucked up the mexican game, they used to be reliable.
Seems that the Japanese are the only ones with extinct ducks.

Can't give Canelo a pass though, he has cherry picked and been hyper careful of picking names over best comp his whole career

I give him props for fighting Floyd, Trout and Kar when they were prime fighters, but he has cherry-picked a lot. The Plant win was also good. He is definitely avoiding Benavidez, though, as well as Andrade

Trout was a robbery IMHO, that said he had some quality fights, but too many bs fights like Cotto, GGG 3rd, Plant was terrible imho, shot Kovalev was another terrible one, and etc.
Hell that fighting shot Kirkland and Angulo was pretty bad too imho.

That said hopefully the generation after him improves, Ryan Garcia seems like the type to try to be great and not duck

Garcia ducked the VADA by saying that he doesn't need a tuneup against Gesta. That's very strange for a fighter to say that he doesn't need a tune up to fight Tank, right when he was about to get tested.

I really do miss the old days when guys like Hagler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran were fighting middleweight and under. They would fight anyone, anywhere and looked to push themselves against quality opposition.

Same goes for the heavyweights of that time. Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Shavers, Holmes, Norton and a host of other good fighters that just fell short of championships all fought each other.

None of them had a prime interest in protecting their "0" in the loss column. If they took a loss, they were ready to get a rematch to rectify it, not duck it.

The lightweight division has so many good fighters now, they could create a new Golden Era. I think the problem is the promoters and the managers

This makes a lot of sense, because it doesn't make sense for an inactive fighter to skip a tuneup when you are about to fight in your biggest match.
I just don't understand why it would matter, thats his benefit if he skips, but this seems weird.
