Having had time to reflect on last night's boxing, I must say I'm still very disappointed with the scorecards.
Over in Doncaster, I had Sergio Perales a clear 117-111 winner over Stewart Hall, in a fight that was easy to score. The Texan controlled the pace early on, landing well from the southpaw stance. Hall, when he jabbed, scored often, but he completely neglected it for large stretches. Hall came back well in the middle rounds when he was well behind on the cards, but it was Perales who finished stronger, despite a cut over his right eye. The judges scores it a UD to hall, with one card 117-112. I suggest the judge either get new glasses, or start following golf.
In Scotland, I had Gary Boulden easily getting at least a draw against Brophy. Boulden started well, but the classier shots in the middle rounds came from the unbeaten Scot (who didn't have Ricky Burns ringside, apparently), but Boulden did enough in the final two to take at least a draw.
I, like most others, had Choi a 116-112 winner over John Simpson. Choi swept the first 5 rounds on my card, and certainly won at least two others after that, with the last a big Choi round. Again, the judges saw it different, and one had Simpson a 117-111 winner. Comical.
At least the officials had Jose Gonzalez in a healthy lead against Ricky Burns before the stoppage, although some (jokers) ringside had burns 6-3 ahead, believe it or not. All three officials had Jose 87-84 ahead, I had it 88-83, but the forth was close and could have went either way, although I favoured the Puerto Rican.
Jamie McDonnell won a MD, with one judge giving him the fight 118-110 which seems insanely wide, although I only caught the last two rounds
I really enjoyed every fight I watched, but again the wrong men had their hand's raised. Too harsh?
