Raging Bull vs. Rocky Balboa To Hit The Big Screen

By: Edward Chaykovsky - 12/23/2012

According to NBC News, actors Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone are going fight each other, in a boxing match, in a 2014-scheduled film "Grudge Match."

"Entourage" creator/writer Doug Ellin was crafting the storyline in which De Niro plays a retired boxer in the movie.

De Niro and Stallone were the stars of the two most famous boxing movies in the history of cinema. De Niro, 69, won his second Oscar for playing the legendary Jake LaMotta in 1980's "Raging Bull," while Stallone, 66, created a legacy with six Rocky movies where he played journeyman turned champion Rocky Balboa. The first Rocky movie, in 1976. earned two Oscar nominations.

I know that DeNiro actually trained for quite some time for his role of Lamotta and had an amateur record of 2-1 or something like that. And Lamotta reportedly said he thought DeNiro could be a contender and that he'd be his manager. Where as Stallone looked like a mong in rocky.

DeNiro KO.

Its bad enough when ancient relics like Holyfield, Briggs, Mercer, Jones, Tarver, Toney etc talk about fighting each other nevermind guys who were just pretending to be boxers.

Judging by Stallone and DeNiro's recent efforts in the films I aint got high hopes for this one. They love their boxing though, Sly doing 6 Rocky movies and DeNiro having done Raging Bull and Night and the City and doing hands of Stone next year as well.

yeah LaMotta did say that, he said in an interview with Sky a few years back, something to the effect of De Niro could have went pro by the end of the training he did in preparation for Raging Bull. Also, Stallone is really short in real life and De Niro isn't, not that dimensions are everything but I guess if they were both going to strip down to actual fighting weights then De Niro would enjoy some form of size advantage,

unless of course Stallone would naturally be similar to a Tyson in physique and be heavy regardless of height etc
