Schaefer: Khan-Broner a serious possibilty

WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner's decision to move up to welterweight has opened up a possible bout with Amir Khan, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has hinted.

Undefeated Broner will move up two weight classes to face WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi at 147lbs on June 22 in New York, Golden Boy announced on Thursday.

With Khan tied up in a bout with Julio Diaz, and other top light-welterweights such as Zab Judah and Lamont Peterson also involved in upcoming fights, Broner made the decision to rise to the welterweight class.

Why have 3-4 easy fights under Hunter, he'll just stagnate, he will be 27 come his next fight and has been a pro for eight years and he's had two shit fights in a row now so he needs to get back in the firing line. Hunter will only be making adjustments to his work, its not like he's gonna be Andre ward ever so the more fights they use as learning the more time wasted imo.

After watching the Diaz fight I don't think Khan can win this, i think he's done on the world stage, he'll get one more big fight which he'll most likely lose via Ko and then he'll either retire or drop down the levels.

I think he gets the Garcia or Peterson rematch next (if he beats Matthysse). If Matthysse wins they will duck out of sticking him in with Garcia imo and do a Garcia-Khan and Matthysse-whoever double card, that way they get one more fight out of their meal tickets either way.

If Khan wins he'll move up and fight either Mayweather or Brook and that'll be the plan.

Matthysse will be avoided like the plague, especially if he beat Peterson, a KO would probably be the worse thing he could do imo unfortunately.

Broner will probably fight Guerrero next imo.
