Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer confirmed reports that promoter Frank Warren reached out to his office with the idea of staging a possible fight between heavyweights Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28KOs) and Dereck Chisora.
Schaefer has big plans for Wilder and doesn't see the point of sending him to the UK for a bout with Chisora (16-4, 10KOs), who lost three of his last four.
"Frank Warren did call and asked if we were interested in a fight between Wilder and Dereck Chisora but we are going in a different direction," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
As reported last week, Schaefer contacted promoter Mick Hennessey to make a fight between Wilder and Tyson Fury. Schaefer's advances were rejected, as Fury eyes a final IBF eliminator with Kubrat Pulev.
Even without Fury in the current picture, there are several possible options for Wilder in the near future, says Schaefer.
"There are a lot of young heavyweights making noise out there, whether if it's David Price, who has to take care of his rematch with Tony Thompson, or whether it's Johnathan Banks, or whether if it's Seth Mitchell who has to take care of his rematch with Banks, or whether if it's even Tyson Fury. There are some young names who are starting to make some noise," Schaefer said.
