FORMER world champion boxer Scott Harrison was freed by a sheriff when he appeared in court from custody yesterday.

But Glasgow sheriff Linda Ruxton said it was "with some hesitation" that she gave Harrison bail again.

She made the decision after being told he would lose his boxing licence if he was remanded in custody. He has a fight scheduled later his month.

The former champion is alleged to have breached bail conditions just 24 hours after appearing in court to deny forcing his way into his ex's home and smashing her TV.

Harrison, 35, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, appeared in court on Hogmanay and pled not guilty. A trial date was set for later this year.

But it is claimed he breached his bail, which banned him from approaching Stacey Gardner or entering her home on the south side of Glasgow. It is understood the two attended the same party on New Year's Day.

Sheriff Ruxton told Harrison: "On balance, I have decided … to release you on bail pending your trial."

Harrison is alleged to have committed the offence on December 30. The charge says he forced his way into a property, shouting, swearing, damaging a TV and scaring his ex-girlfriend.

He is also charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the house where the New Year party took place in Glasgow and at Cathcart police office. A trial diet was set for later this year.
