Former WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison has been given the chance to fast-track his career back on to the global stage.

The 34-year-old Scot has been offered a fight against former British and European lightweight champion John Murray on the undercard of WBO title holder Ricky Burns' defence against Kevin Mitchell at Glasgow's SECC on Saturday 22 September.

A bout against Murray would serve as an eliminator for the WBO belt and provide Harrison with the chance to become the first Scot to become a three-times world champion.

Harrison - who was last in action at the end of June with a fourth-round stoppage of Hungarian opponent Gyorgy Mizsei at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow - has also been offered the opportunity to box Greenock's John Simpson in an eliminator for the British super-feathwerweight crown.

I may be on my own, but I would absolutely love this.
You certainly ain't on your own. Would be a cracking fight. We really don't know how much Mitchell and Rios knocked out of Murray, and we ry don't no how much Scott has left as his last opponent was crap.

Cracking fight. Hopefully it's on the mitchell - burns card as I'm going :yep

I don't see them putting this fight underneath Burns-Mitchell, surely it could headline a show on it's own. Would love to see it but kind of think they could keep them apart and get them both voluntary shots over the next 18 months

Obviously Frank wants Scott to win to cash in on his comeback with a Cook-like defence for Burns, but this could be a decent scrap but i'd expect Murray to have enough

I reckon Harrison might win, on points in a war. Harrison is more experienced and more skilled, and extremely strong. Murray will be in there and throwing and it will show just how much resistance Scott has lost in all these years on the wagon.

Harrison will not be a big puncher at this weight IMO (and never was really, freakishly strong though) but if he can stand up to Murray's accumulative game I think he can do the better work, maybe stopping John Murray late (boy has been in some wars and is inactive, like Harrison he doesn't live the life between fights) or by doing the better work to win on points.

Guaranteed war IMO. Can't wait.

Harrison has 1 fight in 7 years but Gallagher says Murray needs a warm up first. :rofl

Trainer Joe Gallagher has dismissed any possibility of a potential show stealing war between John Murray and Scott Harrison on the undercard of Ricky Burns against Kevin Mitchell in September.

Prior to speaking to Gallagher over the phone, BoxingScene had been informed that Harrison, a former world featherweight champion, had been offered the Murray fight and negotiations were due to take place by the end of the week.

When this information was put forward to Gallagher, he said: “Its news to me. What’s Scott Harrison going to do for John Murray’s career? He needs us much more than we need him. Right now John is on holiday and six to seven weeks preparation wouldn’t be enough for him anyway. I want him to have a warm up fight in October first anyway.”

Murray, a former European lightweight champion endured two high profile losses last year against Kevin Mitchell and Brandon Rios, a fight that was marred by Rios’s inability to make the 135lb limit thus making his WBA title vacant.

Despite Murray’s back-to-back defeats, Gallagher told me that a gentleman’s agreement is in place for his Mancunian charge to get his second world title shot.

“If Kevin Mitchell beats Ricky Burns, Kevin has told us he will give John his chance just like we gave him,” said Gallagher. “Kevin always tells me that every time we see him. John didn’t have to give Kevin the chance when he did, but that’s the kind of fighter he is. He seeks the biggest challenges. John had a higher ranking at the time and more to lose, but he gave Kevin a shot. So we hope Kevin sticks to his word if he beats Ricky.”
