I wrote this article on Rigondeaux a few weeks after his fight with Kennedy a wee while back. http://www.saturdaynightboxing.com/2012/07/analysing-jackal-guillermo-rigondeaux.html I'm just going to add some notes to him from the fight tonight.
Improvements:
His right hand, in terms of offense, has improved dramatically since the fight with Kennedy. Before all he would do is flick the occasional jab and half hearted lead right hook, but it was largely just used as a defensive tool. Tonight he showed a very very nice jab and right hook, dropping a tough fighter in Marroquin with a right hook and largely controlling him with the jab at times. Combined with his unbelievable balance, footwork, feinting and eye fucking, i was impressed.
Problem:
Unfortunately I think that my only worry about Rigo may be correct. He was wobbled twice in this fight. Granted, Marroquin hits hard, but for someone who doesn't get hit at all, when he did get hit he was hurt at times. I am in the belief that Rigo is packing a suspect chin and a boxer with awkward power shots such as donaire could take advantage of it.
Another problem I noted with Rigo is something that all southpaws find trouble with. The right hand lands on him. For such a defensive fighter he was caught with the right hand more than I was expecting.
All in all I was very impressed with rigo. I would put more effort into this post but it's twenty past three. Hope you all get my general idea.
