GARY 'Spike' O'Sullivan more than anyone knows a pro boxers career can have more ups and downs than a public toilet seat. A point compounded by the fact a career low on Monday evening was followed by a career high yesterday.

Just hours after hearing his WBO international title defence against Joe Selkirk was cancelled the Cork fighter was given the news he will fight a 'well know British boxing star' in a World title eliminator this Summer.

Who that 'star' is has yet to be officially announced or confirmed, but considering it's a fellow Frank Warren promoted middleweight its obvious to most. Who the winner of the Summer eliminator get to fight is not a secret, however, and O'Sullivan is now just two wins away from a clash with WBO middleweight champion of the World Peter 'Kid Chocolate' Quillin.

It is a massive turn around in fortune for the undefeated puncher considering his career looked to be entering limbo when Warren cancelled this weekends Liverpool card leaving Sullivan with a third cancellation since December.

O'Sullivan will now appear along side Stephen Ormond, Luke Keeler and Karl Brabazon in the Carlton Hotel on May 3 before heading to London to fight the unnamed but well know middleweight in the Summer.

Speaking at the press conference to announce Stephen Ormond's WBU Lightweight World title fight trainer Pascal Collins explained the situation.

"Gary was due defend his title this Friday night on Boxnation against Joe Selkirk, but a week ago Joe pulled out of the fight. They never gave a reason why so we were looking for a replacement. On Monday we got the bad news that the whole show was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, but Dean Powell (Warren's matchmaker) told Spike to stay in Dublin and keep training because they guaranteed him a fight," said Collins.

"So within 24 hours I got a call offering us the world title eliminator directly. Every dark cloud has a sliver lining! The fight is against one of the biggest middleweight names in the UK at the moment. We can't mention who it is but we have taken the fight. We did want a warm up and Frank agreed to cover the cost of Spike's fight on the May 3 show. So Spike has been added to the card, which is great news for Irish fight fans.

"So if he comes through the May 3 fight his next fight will be a 12 round title defence in England, most likely in June and when he comes trough that he will fight Kid Chocolate for the WBO middleweight world title."

Sounds like Billy Joe Saunders.

No chance. Would prove how much a joke boxing has become once and for all if BJS vs Gary Sullivan is a world title eliminator.
