How would you do it?
If you had control over everything and wanted to build Amir back up what would you focus on. I Doubt massive changes are possible considering his experience and alarming stupidity but how would you go about making a new beginning for the lad?

I would :
-Stay at 140. Amir never weighs in very heavy on fight night and is already too easy to bully at 10 stone. Being in with bigger punchers isn't too wise either.
-Get shot of Saj and the other hangers on and get a proper PR guy in to run his twitter and filter his interviews. All the crap he gets himself in is an distraction he doesn't need.
-Move away from the wild card and Freddy Roach. Roach has done a lot for him and is a great trainer but Pac and more recently JCC jnr are ahead of him in the pecking order there and the gym war mentality of the others isn't good for amir. I'm not sure where he should go. Maybe Manny Steward could rebuild him in to a proper stick and move fighter.
-Drill into him how to react when hurt and get him to focus on jabbing and 1-2 's then moving on again. When he backs someone up he can maybe let go with a left hook to the body. The main focus had to be on raiding tactics and a solid high guard for me though.

Your ideas CHB?

im not sure about the trainers, most if not all trainers can't give 1 fighter 100% so if khan needs this he will have to have his dad training him,and to tell you the truth i don't think he can be changed.
he has got away with his style against half decent world class fighters with not much dig(apart from maidana, but he has been found wanting at world level as well)i think his style has been ingrained in him and he has been sussed out

You need to sort out his mentality. He needs to realise he isn't as good as he thinks and that his chin is vulnerable. It's all well and good correcting his technical faults but the fact that he thinks he just got caught by a lucky punch makes me think he wouldn't win a rematch if it happened. You have to train to negate your opponent's strengths, not just accentuate your own and Khan's not going to do that when he thinks he's Mr PPV fighting bums who are lucky to be in the ring with him and who occasionally get lucky.

Technically he needs to improve his balance and footwork, that's obvious. He also needs a plan B and needs to learn to vary the speed of his attacks. He's too 1 paced; as soon as someone survives the initial 100mph onslaught or can deal with the speed he doesn't know where to go. Years of british stoppages are to blame there in my opinion.

I would have a slab surgically implanted into his jaw and neck area. That is all.
Great input. Good job.

This is a massive part of it for me. He needs a more respect for his opponents abilities and a better estimate of his own.

that seems to be the problem @12downfor10 ,he seems to believe he is the best thing out there and no no matter what anyone says he is always looking past his opponent which is a massive mistake, which is what i and many others have said about him in the past.

He is world class, nowt up with being world class it takes a fucking hell of a lot to get there, but there is a fair few world class boxers around who will beat him,he is just not a elite fighter

I never thought he was going to be elite, I just didn't see the well rounded skillset or true exceptional talent in one area to be elite. I agree he is world title level fighter though he may struggle to win another one unless he makes the changes or is matched very carefully.

lots of great fighters have been caught with big shots and dropped....except they knew what to do when they got up, groggy or not....khan is a superb boxer, extremely skilled, but one area he hasn't learned is how to grab and spoil when hurt.
against garcia he should have ran straight to him covering up as much as possible and grab him and hug him and walk him back to the ropes like that, and keep doing it until his head cleared.

Personally I don't think he is a great boxer. Great speed yeah,he's to predictable and becomes easy to time. He is way too sloppy and his flurries are inaccurate, his jab seemed to land ok against Garcia but not a lot else. He needs to settle down and be more balanced he falls in loads which is dangerous for him.

I'm not hating on Khan he will give us exciting fights. But I don't think he can change its just his mentality and the fact he thinks he is above all these guys isn't going to help either.

Terry Norris was an exceptionally gifted fighter (and superior to Khan), but he was chinny. It's a massive liability and, like Norris, Khan just can't seem to get rid of the macho streak where he wants to out-punch his opponents. Really he needs to grow up a bit still - by the time he's 28 or so I suspect a lot of that machismo will have gone. But with it will be his natural speed...

Do you think Darni/Go Getta committed suicide after Saturday?

Darni is around but in greater denial than before.

King Khan has racked up 7500 posts in three months, most of them a picture of Paul Williams laid out against Martinez, trying to say that PW had a weaker chin.

If you could rebuild him and he was going to listen, learn and change his mentality how big a job do you think it would be?

Personally I think you have to go back and correct his balance and improve his footwork just to get him a decent base to work from. Obviously his defence would need to be tightened up a lot and he would be best suited to sticking to just straight punches he would become boring to watch but with his weaknesses he needs to be.
