I thought I'd start a thread asking everyone who they thought were the greatest champions the original 8 weight classes have ever seen. So, for example, Ezzard Charles may be the greatest LHW of all time, but never actually held the belt, so he is excluded.

Does Louis overtake Ali? (he is already ahead of him for me anyway). Does Lennox have a shout? Is Hopkins, with his 20 title defences, the greatest MW champion ever? Does Ortiz pip Jofre at Bantam?

Well, you get the idea.

Hard to say.....

Heavyweight- Louis, the personification of the dominant champion....
Light Heavyweight- Moore
Middleweight- Monzon
Welterweight- Robinson
Lightweight- Joe Gans or Benny Leonard
Featherweight- Pep
Bantamweight- Jofre
Flyweight- Miguel Canto (I was about to say Perez, he was a bit more dominant, but I see a good advantage in Canto in the H2H ability, I like to combine both things to balance the criteria, both things are totally connected though)

edit - the FLW is between Canto, Wilde and Perez......forgot Wilde.....but I still keep Canto at first tbh.....

I love the Wilde shouts at Fly, I really do.

I think I'll take:

HW - Louis. He absolutely dominated the division.
LHW - Moore
MW - i'll say Monzon as well, although Hopkins is close. Not sure SRR has any sort of a shout here.
WW - Robinson
LW - Benny Leonard
FW - Willie Pep
Bantam - Jofre
Fly - Still undecided

@doug.ie yeah it's Venice.

And I'm trollin' there, but he's a H2H monster :yep

Canto for fly, for me. His opposition is just easier to assess than Wilde's.

I rank Wilde higher than Canto P4P though :good

i picked him as i am a huge fan.....i can't say you are wrong...my pick was one of admiration really.
His big problem as far as I am concerned is the lack of a defining win at mw both his most famous wins DeLaHoya and Trinidad were against smaller men and his one fight against a genuine great around his own size Jones was a bit of a lesson.Having said that he gives any mw ever plenty to think about and is an ATG when it comes to professionalism and fitness.

 don't boo and hiss at me Flea! Hopkins had a very good middleweight reign, but his two best wins are against smaller men in Tito and Oscar. But I do think Monzon's title reign is superior.

As Moore has dominated the LHW list so far, who would be 2nd on everyone's list?
