NEXT UP FOR TIM BRADLEY: RUSLAN PROVIDNIKOV

Edited Press Release:
February 03, 2013

On Saturday, March 16th at Carson, California's Home Depot Center, WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (29-0 [with an asterisk due to an undeserved decision over Manny Pacquiao]) will make the first defense of the title he won last year by defeating Manny Pacquiao, against Ruslan Provodnikov (22-1), of Russia. The bout will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing. Appearing on the [presumably non-televised portion of the] undercard will be two-time Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez (2-0).

Ouch. From Pacquiao to this. Timmy's career has really stalled off the back of that gift strangely
I get the impression that he was holding out for a big pay day off the back of the Pacquiao fight, but it just never materialised.

Which fight was it that was mooted and Bradley essentially turned his nose up at it?

Things seem to work out for Bradley. He wants big fights, should be in the mix but, I think he's waiting to see what happens with everybody else. This is just a fight. He better win and then he and his people need to make smart decisions. This is a great time in his weight "neighborhood", he doesn't want to be a forgotten man...

Wasn't he meant to fight Guerrero at one point? @Bryn is that the fight you're thinking of? That would have been fun but he was holding out for another Pacman payday i think

Top Rank offered GBP $1.2m for Guerrero's services for a Bradley fight (15th December), of which $600,000 was offered to Guerrero. Which was ridiculous on GBP's part, so it was rejected. Guerrero got paid $1m vs Berto anyway, so he didn't really miss out. Bradley was also offered Peterson for $2.3m, which he rejected. I don't understand why he didn't take it, although from a fan's point of view, it was a completely pointless fight, so it wasn't exactly a massive loss.

I don't like the way Bradley does his business. He has long spells of inactivity waiting for a Pac payday then fights below par opposition when there's others out there. Like the Khan fight, for about a year that was on the cards as the biggest fight at 140 but it never happened because Bradley was waiting for Pac, he fought Casemayor instead. After just not fighting for ages.

Now he's not fought in quite a while and is coming back against Providnikov. I mean, I wouldn't mind him taking these fights if he was keeping active but if you're largely inactive then I'd prefer bigger fights.

And he wonders why he's got no following?

Maybe it's a Bob Arum/Top Rank thing rather than a Bradley issue. I know it's all just business but I still don't like.

Bradley has been curled up in his wheel chair for the last year, curtains drawn, lights off, rocking back and forth, repeating the line 'when you beat a legend, you become a legend' over and over..

I'd rather see him step in for Alexander and fight Brook, then the winner of that unifies with Alexander and away we go. Then one of the three can beat up Amir later in the year.
in a perfect world that would be what happens. if only fans could control boxing, the sport would be in such better shape

You would think Boxnation would have picked this up to honour their commitment of one live show per week.

It seems Loaded are the only live boxing provider this weekend
