I can definitely see the argument for Bowe winning. His size and power would be the first obstacle for Tyson, and if Bute was able to fully utilise that great jab of his which he often neglected, to force Tyson back, and wear him down I could see him stopping Tyson.

Conversely I believe that Tyson could, and in my opinion would take this fight. I don't think Bowe has ever been all that successful at keeping guys off him, and Tyson was incredibly difficult to shake off and I don't really see that much evidence for Bowe being able to do it. I just don't think he'd be able to stop Tyson getting to him, and I mean if you let Tyson get to you, quite often you are fucked. Bowe's concentration is a big factor, and despite that great performance in the win over Holyfield his focus did wane at times and he let Holyfield in. It's not the perfect performance some make it out to be. I think Tyson would get past Bowe's jab, push him back to the ropes and just unload on him. It's hard to see Bowe getting stopped, but I think it's a possibility in this case. I do fancy Tyson to punish and outwork him over the distance though.

Futch's gameplan for this one would work straight to Bowe's strengths.

He would at the very least give Tyson some issues at distance with his jab. Im not saying Tyson couldnt and wouldn't slip it but it wouldnt be easily done. The reason you never saw Bowe being successful at keeping guys off him is that he loved that kind of fight despite being bigger and lanky. He wouldn't try to keep Tyson off him, he would initiate a closer range where Tyson couldn't tee off on him and then light the guy up close with superior infighting. He'd use his height and weight to tire Tyson out, who would get frustrated trying to make space to throw bombs. He has the chin to withstand it. He has the stamina to go the distance and win unlike Tyson. Because Bowe definitely wouldn't get sparked early.

I'm saying this as a guy who likes bowe a whole lot less

Good post.

Equally, I can see an inside 'fight' where Tyson just tie's Bowe up and leans on him. And from that leaning position fires off uppercuts. Tyson himself didn't seem to get tired using that method, it always seemed to work pretty well for him and I can envisage a scenario where he's able to tire Bowe out by putting his weight on him in those clinches and then wear him down with that big right uppercut on the inside. Tyson did that to so many opponents and I'm not sure Bowe has the smarts of versatility to combat that.

I think that because Holyfield is only a few feet bigger than Tyson, it afforded him better leverage for his punches on the inside. Bowe, being much bigger than Tyson would have a harder time getting good momentum on his shots when trying to punch down on Tyson.

I'm not saying that would dictate the outcome of the fight, but it's food for thought.

I think Bowe showed pretty consistent ability to infight smaller guys. And holyfield didnt win because of size. He won because of superior strength, infighting technique, and stamina("heart" too i guess). I would rate Bowe very high in all of those at his peak.

I can't see it for Tyson personally, if we're talking the best versions of both. Stylistaclly I only imagine Sonny Liston would be worse for Tyson than Bowe would be. I don't know if it would be Bowe worrying about keeping Tyson off him as much as Tyson would be worrying about Bowe giving him a shellacking. As the fight progresses and Bowe is still game as a badger to be the aggressor, I don't see Tyson unveiling the will to win to see it through. Bowe had a fantastic jab also when he was in his prime.

I do consider that Tyson potentially gets off with blistering combinations too much early on before Bowe has any chance to get into the fight, but it's not something that I favour. Tyson has greater stamina than Bowe, that much is true, but Bowe has the appetite for a great back and forth brawl more so than Tyson does and I only see Bowe growing in stature and in confidence as Tyson shrinks in those areas, for those reasons, I think Bowe would win it.

Ali is still the worst matchup for Tyson i think, he'd get frustrated to the point of suicide thereby killing himself and rendering a no contest.
yeah I agree that's the only reason I say that Liston is the worst for Tyson stylistically, because on paper I don't believe Ali should be as big a problem for Tyson as he would be in reality. On paper I would think Tyson would be able to do better against a guy giving him room like Ali would do, but the reality is that Tyson would crumble mentally pretty quickly against Ali shouting at him and giving him all the abuse in the world, whilst showing more fighting heart and will to win than him. Things aren't always about styles imo. These other things play a factor.
