Wars are waged for many reasons. Revolution. Revenge. Respect. Riches. Resistance. In boxing, a fighter enters the ring with a myriad of forces at work: training preparation; the quality of the team/camp; commitment to the craft; mental, spiritual, and physical fortitude. It can take years to build a champion atop the sport, and just seconds to flatline a fighter's ascent. 2012 provided breathtaking moments of masterpiece pugilism, drama, controversy, and unexpected theater. 2013 will likely follow suit as another Gregorian calendar year presents itself to the boxing world. In a sport replete with unthinkable plot twists, no expert can ever be too certain of outcome, yet one thing always remains the same.

There will be war in the squared circle.

I'd rather see Canelo-Trout first to be honest. Then the winner can face Floyd. It's a bit boring for Canelo to get Floyd before facing Trout, a bit like the heavyweight division where everyone doesn't fight eachother, they just fight a Klitschko. Floyd's likely got Guerrero next so in that time Saul can fight Trout ina 'who nexx' fight.

Canelo-Trout is what I want. Make it so! I'd probably favour Trout too. Then we can have Trout-Mayweather.

Canelo vs Trout should be made first, the most logical move. Neither of these guys is deserving of a fight with Mayweather for a big payday yet (not that guerrero is more more worthy either though) and this would establish once and for all who's the best 154 fighter around, besides money may of course. Trout has got a good shot at beating Canelo I think, he's one of those boxers who could give anyone around serious trouble. He's a good solid counter puncher, with a strong consistent jab, yet as he prove din the Cotto fight, knows how to fight in close with short shot's and some rough stuff. He's also solid defensively, not all that easy to hit as he can utilise his range well at times. H might not be a big puncher but he can hit hard enough to gain respect for sure though.

Who has Canelo fought to warrant a fight with Mayweather? He needs to fight some decent Trout first rather than blown up super lightweights like Lopez, that fight was a disgrace I couldnt believe Lopez took it, I know money talks but shit. I do think Canelos a good fighter and has a chance against Mayweather but I feel hes spoon fed a little.

I'd like to see Mares-Santa Cruz or if not Mares-Vasquez Jr would be fun. Obviously, the Donaire fight would be nice but Nonito's obviously a clear favourite in that one and I think honestly Rigo would cause Donaire more problems, even if the fight wouldn't be as exciting as one with Mares.

Bellew-Chilemba has the potential to be a classic battle in my opinion too. Not necessarily a war though

EDIT: Sorry I didn't realise this was only about Mayweather-Canelo! I'm looking forward for that too

He's like 22, man. Of course he's spoon-fed. You can't rush that guy into monster fights at that age, he needs to develop. I think he's doing great. And of course he warrants a fight with Mayweather, there's hardly that many names out there and if it makes dollars, it makes sense. I'd say the only person out there who can draw with Mayweather is Martinez. Maybe Marquez.

The Lopez fight was a joke though.

Yeah I agree, I dont think he should be rushed into a fight with Mayweather nor do I tink he deserves it, surely after a couple of fights it will happen and hopefully he has a win over Trout at least.

Well the Lopez fight only really happened excuse Canelo - Ortiz was pencilled in. When Lopez stopped Ortiz, it was only logical the fight happened (even if we all knew it would be a one sided beating).

As for Mayweather - Canelo, I'd like to see it this year.

I find it weird that the supposed 'big two' at LMW haven't ever fought a true 154lber bar Oscar 5/6 years ago :-(

Canelo vs Trout. Winner fights Floyd.

If Brook beats Alexander I expect a Floyd fight, would make sense as it'd probably be PPV in UK too.

Team Canelo: We're Facing Mayweather in September

By Miguel Rivera, notifight.com

WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) will get his wish in 2013 - a dream fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. - according to Canelo's manager Chepo Reynoso.

Canelo and Mayweather will co-headline a big evening of boxing on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Should both of the superstars win their individual fights, they will collide on September 14th at the same Las Vegas venue.

"[Vice President] Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions came to Guadalajara and we agreed that Saul and Floyd would share the evening in May. We already reached a financial agreement [for May], and a guarantee that we will face [Mayweather] in September in Las Vegas," said Chepo via telephone.

"The worth of Saul was confirmed by the large attendance at the [MGM Grand], even though on that same day Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fought 'Maravilla' Martinez a few blocks away. In addition, Canelo finished Josesito Lopez with the force that was expected. Mayweather had difficulties in defeating Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto, who even landed some big punches. We believe that it is time for Canelo to show what is made of."

Mayweather will likely face Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero in May. Canelo's opponent is still unresolved, but Austin Trout is still rumored to be in the running.

Canelo v Mayweather is a monster fight. I don't even mind if Canelo swerves Trout just to make sure there are no banana skins.
This is the best fight out there for getting the sport mainstream attention in the USA. How about Garcia v Matthysse as chief support? Sorry had to say it!:eek:ops
