Group 1:
Fury vs. Klitschko
Ortiz vs. Ustinov

Group 2:
Chagaev vs. Browne
winner meets Oquendo

Bit of a strange pitch for it: "Good news. World Boxing Association President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza has announced that the WBA will consolidate the heavyweight titles. This means ONE heavyweight champion." It won't remotely mean one heavyweight champ at all but I guess that's the shtick they're running with. That's marketing. It's something positive at least.

Don't know what to make of this. The WBA has been the least credible heavyweight belt for some time now but if these fights go ahead and we end up with one WBA belt holder that won't be so bad. All that really matters is the left hand side of that tree, Fury-Klitschko is obviously happening anyway, but the winner fighting (most likely) Ortiz would be a brilliant fight. At that point the 'final' would just be a formality really, but as a mandatory defense it isn't terrible and would at least clear up the WBA mess (for the time being I expect, they'll probably bring back their ridiculous regular/silver/bronze belts eventually)

I think Fury's toughest fight is still Klitschko in this little tournament. I say Fury takes it. I like King Kong Ortiz, but I don't think he can beat Fury.

Lmfao the right side of the tournament is complete trash. Lucas Browne? 100 year old Chagaev? fres Oquendo? :rofl
Ortiz vs the winner of Fury vs Wlad could be cool though if Ortiz as he should disposes of Ustinov

Is there any real chance that Fury takes part? If he beats Klitschko he will want to fight Wilder in the U.S to try and break the American market? If he loses then he will want a rematch with Klitschko...
Good call mate. Not a difficult one but it had to be said. Actually if he beats Wlad again, not the foregone conclusion that some think IMO, he will want an easy first defence like almost anybody else. I don't think the opponent will be any tougher than Helenius, for example. I can't really seeing this getting off the ground. Ustinov will fight Ortiz, though, get stopped and then all the rest of the heavyweights will avoid Ortiz in the hope that age wearies him.

Good idea, but won't this happen naturally? If he beats Ustinov, for me he will deserve to be every organisations number one contender and no doubt about it. But Im sure there'll be some slipping and sliding to avoid him by all the champions.
It will indeed, but it will prevent the winner having to deal with the load of piss on the right side of the tournament. We're pretty much guaranteed a mismatch in the final as it stands.

Fury won't take part in this BS. Peter Fury has confirmed it.
Are you referring to this?

So for Fury, hypothetically if he gets past Klitschko, he then has the choice of dedicating himself to the WBA tournament or moving on and looking at other routes. As his coach and uncle Peter Fury made clear when stripped of the IBF title, they aren't one to bow to the authorities. They recognise themselves as champions for beating Klitschko, the belts aren't what validates Tyson Fury as champion, the results are. It is entirely realistic that Team Fury could tell the WBA to stick it and keep their title, thus crowning another new world champion (after Charles Martin was somewhat gifted the IBF version).

I think you're right. It is very likely that Fury wouldn't involve himself in this. He would follow the money and/or integrity that other fights might bring. Now that Wlad is dethroned everyone wants to state their claim to a piece of the heavyweight action. It'll be fragmented for a while now and there may not be a unified champ for a long time. Fury, for his part, probably doesn't give a shit because he'll believe that boxing fans know he's currently the 'man'. If that's the case then Ortiz emerging as the winner of this 'tournament' looks like the best bet. Fury can fight the winner at some point anyway without having to involve himself in this drawn out WBA competition.
