What the fucking fuck...
No idea. I wonder if the winner will defend it in 10 years time....:rofl
What decade? :think
To be honest, I'd be all for that if the fighters within the organisation actually had to fight eachother. Beats the money talk of two fighters who won't get it on any day.Sometimes you hear something that you have to question again, ''Say that again''. I've done that a few times just reading through this thread, what in the fuck is happening to this sport? I'm just waiting for someone to come along with big pile of money and an exclusive contract and create a UFC type industry within boxing. This shit is out of control now and is making the sport a laughing stock.
It seems to be the only way forward. To be honest, I'd be all for that if the fighters within the organisation actually had to fight eachother. Beats the money talk of two fighters who won't get it on any day.
Doubt it could happen, too many promoters with their nose in. Can't imagine Arum, Hoya, Warren, Sauerland, Dibella, Hearn etc all getting along to make something like this happen and they would just refuse to sell up to a big buyer. Too many egos after too much money. Boxing is fucked. best thing that could happen is too sanctioning bodies totally fuck up and go out of businessIt seems to be the only way forward.
The best example of how this would work is UFC and Champions League in football. Pay the best the top money and make a clear distinction that you're only after top talent. A UFC type company would have different divisions, USA, UK, GERMANY etc. Fights screened in each division every Sartuday evening in respective countries and then say once every 2 months have a huge card for 5 hours and put the best on. Don't bother tapping into existing weight divisions and create less by combining smaller ones like before. That way man on the street can track whats happening, who is who champiosn wise and knows what he's paying for and will get bang for his buck as it were.
Something like this has to happen. HBO, Sky, German Broadcaster whoever they are etc all paying in could make this happen. We all know as fans that too many belts in too many divisiosn with too many politcs fuck things up but this would change it all. Promoters say they want big fighst but really they want big paying fights which are best for fights. Why cash in on 2 big fights when you can earn good money fight 5 gimmes and risk of losing is less? By creating a top purse divsion with sponsorships and brand valeu then it'd be a wise move. The key thing what boxing lacks is clarity. Simple as that. If I ask even the most hardcore of fans who the wbo flyweight is they'd scratch their heads. Fuck it off. When you go on SSN you see who's top of league in French football, English Rugby (both stes, union and league), Darts rankings etc. Boxing you don't. However with this new system you'd see who was champion and who was number one contender. Do a bit of advertising before Football and during adverts before and after Daz etc and that's a winner. Boxing would no doubt explode and get more viewers. Also lets not forget the fighters who aren't gifted enough to be champs but are awesome to watch, give them good purses in all action fights, that keeps action ticking over whilst we wait for big fights.
You wouldn't have to get them to sell, you'd simply offer purses that blow them out the water. Fighters would run down contracts just like they do in football. You're spot on with your post really but fact of matter is we love a sport that is in dire health. Fighters are looking to maximise earning potential first and foremost and the sport is getting ruined because risk is avoided where possible. The power needs to be with fighters and us fans control that power. Fact of matter is Arum cost us Gamboa v Juanma and costing us Pac v PBF, 2 massive fights fans wanted to see, breaks my heart.Doubt it could happen, too many promoters with their nose in. I really wish they would but for some reason they seem to give the promoter all the power. I mean Sky have risked putting all their boxing in the hands of Hearn so if he wants a shitty title fight they are likely to say yes. Warren has his own channel which effectively means shit fights for WBO titles for as long as he can get away with it (1 in 4 fights for champions are decent at an estimate). You wouldn't have to get them to sell, you'd simply offer purses that blow them out the water. I definately believe it can be done but it needs the top tv networks to pull together and demand change. The more they fund promoters who avoid risk, the more they back bullshit title fights, the more they allow baubles to be created and fought for the worse boxing is becoming. If TV companies say enough is enough and propose an idea like mine or at least a proper boxing organisation then things can and will change for the better. IF HBO, Sky ect all kept their hands in their pockets then things would have to change becausxe quite simply boxing would go bust. I have been watching less and less boxing over the last 6 months and now I hardly know who's who, how the fuck is Joe Bloggs casual fan meant to keep up?
In the meantime I suggest TV companies pay fighters to fight each other and if need be tell the promoters to fuck the straps off. WBC don't allow Champs to fight one another so if HBO said fuck it, no more WBC straps wanted on their channel then I'd definately say that'd make the WBC stand up and take notice, they may even drop their Silver, Bronze belts etc.
I agree totally, we are basically trying to start a movement against TV corps, Millionaire promoters, foolish paying viewers and worse of all some cowardly boxers.I really wish they would but for some reason they seem to give the promoter all the power. Over the states if the TV companies try to stamp down the promoters just switch up from HBO to Showtime and vice versa putting pressure on the station to secure the top boxers no matter what shit they are handed. Its a sad state of affairs but the only thing that could change it imo would be mass boycotts and even then it plays into the anti-boxing brigades hands and is probably impossible to organise.
