As you all know, Broner defeated Vicente Escobedo on Saturday night. I'm watching it right now and I was impressed by Broner's handspeed and overall strength. He was walking Escobedo down the whole time and his handspeed was quite impressive. When he unleashed his combinations they did damage and he was pressing the action all night.
Escobedo wasn't without his little moments however. At times he would counter Broner or rip shots to the body, though they were few and far between.

What was your opinion? How far do you think Broner will go?

It was a decent performance, but its really what was to be expected. Broner looked like a welterweight in there, so he was always going to have an easy time walking Escobedo down.

He does have talent though, good hand speed, fairly sound defence, a nice jab and a good variety of punches. He is also, of course a very strong 135/130 pounder. Ill be interested to see how he deals with a fighter who he doesn't greatly outmatch in size, which we'll probably see once he moves up to lightweight.

He had a very sharp jab on Saturday I thought.

I've seen the stoppage which looked ok to me. He does have talent, but I don't think he is anywhere near as good as he, or HBO, think he is. He has good speed, but I want to see him in with someone his own size for a change. That stupid little noise he makes when he throws a punch annoys me, and his reflexes are nowhere near as good to make his defensive style work for him.

I honestly think he is an arse kicking waiting to happen

I agree. Escobedo was landing much more than I would have expected. If Broner is put in with a top lightweight he could very well get hammered. But let's wait and see.

Did Escobedo really land anything effective? I'm not sure he did, he was always punching off balance worried about planting his feet and getting countered since he was outmatched for speed and didn't have the strength to do anything but box against the bigger guy. A few jabs and the odd body shot aside, there wasn't a lot to be worried about for Broner and Broner realized this and walked him down. I really just feel like Broner carried him most of the way through, felt like it could end whenever Broner wanted to put his punches together and that played out too.

...I also concur with this. But Escobedo did land a couple of good shots.

A couple, yeah. Everyone lands a couple shots. Especially when you feel like the guys got nothing, complacency comes into the equation. Largely I think he did an efficient job, I felt watching throughout it was a sustained effort from Broner away from being stopped. Even though Escobedo wasn't getting hurt badly, you could see in the guys face he felt like he had nothing to trouble Broner with as early as a couple rounds in. Once it played out from the early going feel out into Broner stepping forward it was going to be over quick against a physically outmatched guy.

We really just need to see him in a fight now. All this cockiness serves to make people impatient, so does failing to make weight. Broner's made a rod for his own back with his actions so he's going to be judged to high standards now and beating this level of opposition won't tell us if he's as advanced as the style and swagger he's attempting to carry off.

Oh yeah, Broner did a very efficient job. Escobedo was on the back foot for literally the whole five rounds, with Broner pressing Vicente with his jab. When Adrien opened up he was hurting Escobedo, especially with those body shots. At one point Broner was just hammering him to the side with right hooks with no retaliation on Escobedo's part.

It was a good performance, he has good handspeed, a decent jab and went to the body well but I'm still not convinced he is the real deal. if he starts walking throught guys like Vasquez, DeMarco, Burns and Abril at lightweight then I will be impressed.
