Some geezer with very white teeth on youtube gives a rant about boxing pundits that use the term "world class" too freely.

What defines "world class" to you in boxing terms? Simply holding or competing for one of the numerous "world" titles? Being genuine top 10 rated in a certain weight division?

Let's have your views on this..

Don't think I've got really hard and fast rules on what I would term as World class. Generally the top 10 in a division, but depends on depth of the talent in that division. LHW would have about 5 world class fighters.

Proving competitive for a period of around two/three years at the top of a division and I don't mean being ranked number 15 by the IBF o some other bullshit, I mean literally mixing it with guys in the top ten of the division regardless which sanction they are under.

About top 10 in any division, even if it's a poor division, if the no 7 guy beats the Lineal Champion, then he has to be world class, but past the top ten the likelihood of anyone being able to do that is slim.

In my mind, it's about levels. If a fighter beats a world class opponent, I regard him as in that class. I don't necessarily think you have to consistently fight in that class like Froch but you have to prove you can if required...

I'd say Burns, Froch and Haye are world class. There are a lot in my opinion who are one good win away from world class.
