"This is a well [stacked] division and we have some names moving up from 140 as well. Let's say Amir Khan, who was ringside, would move up on December 7th and fight the winner of Lee Purdy and Devon Alexander, and becomes the welterweight champion. I could see something like that. I could see. Danny Garcia, once he has cleaned up the junior welterweight division, he could be a name. We have Victor Ortiz, who is going to fight in September, he feels there is some unfinished business. There are a lot of possibilities," Schaefer said.

A lot of possibilities, but only one real interesting fight there - Saul Alvarez.

Mayweather was previously insistent that he'd fight again in September but I don't think he will any more. The options aren't there.

* The Garcia/Peterson/Matthysse situation won't be solved by then so that rules them out.
* Khan won't be back til December.
* Alexander is a possibility after he comes through against Purdy, but who the hell's gonna wanna watch that?
* Ortiz needs at least one comeback win to make the fight slightly realistic.
* Marquez, Bradley, Pacquiao, Alvarado, Rios are all with Bob Arum so none of those are likely to happen.
* Anyone else in the division doesn't really have anything behind them at the moment: Berto, Thurman, Lopez, Maidana etc. seem very unlikely.

Up at light-middleweight you've got Alvarez or Trout who are perhaps the options but Mayweather/Canelo is a massive fight and a big risk for both to take, I think it has another year of building it up if it ever happens at all.

What do you think the immediate future holds for Floyd Mayweather?

I want him to fight Bradley. Canelo or Trout would be great too.

Realistically I have no idea. Like you've shown, there's always obstacles in the way of these fights happening.

Probably gonna be some shitbird like Berto.

I don't think the Alvarez fight will happen now tbh. I think Floyd would beat him if it did but I think they are now on polar plains whereby theirs to much to lose either way for ti to happen.

Mayweather will fight the winner of Khan/Alexander, Thurman, Brook, Martirosyan and guys like that till he retires. if were lucky he'll fight Alvarez or maybes Garcia if he can find a way to bypass Matthysse. I think thats what we have to look forward to.

I think the Alvarez fight may happen in September. I wouldn't be surprised if Floyd fights him twice because of the cash involved.
If not, I can see it being the winner of Lopez v Maidana or Angulo if he beats Lara.

I would be so very disappointed with Mayweather if he sat another year out. Now is not the time, keep active while you can. There's no reason to take another year off after a fight like that, it was almost partly a tune-up. There's options at 147 and 154, and if he can't grab any there, he can surely pull someone up from 140. Look at all the fighters who were there at the fight last night. At the least, he could score a rematch with Ortiz/JMM/Cotto. He can fight anyone he wants, he'll make money. I'd like to see a Bradley fight. I don't think he'll ever fight Alvarez.

I read earliey Pac is willing to do a 60-40 split any any testing now
The ship has sailed. Manny's not even in charge.

Its got to the point I wouldnt want to see the Pacman fight now, I couldnt bear to hear Floyd fans giving it large after beating a faded Pacquiao to add to his list of faded names

The Alvarez fight is the best out there now. Canelo has proven himself to be a world class boxer who can mix it up when he needs to. He'll be a real test for Floyd.

If he fights in September, I think it will be Devon Alexander. I'm very confident the khan fight happens sometime next year, as does Danny Gracia

Floyd beats any version of Pacquiao, if you want to criticize a fighters resume criticize Pacquiaos. Never has Floyd took part in such a farce as the Pacquiao DLH fight or the Margarito fight or the Mosley fight.

I dont thin he does personally. But Floyd has the JMM fight, the Cotto fight and he also beat a faded ODLH. They both have holes that can be picked in their records tbf

True, but.. DLH was unbelievably drained for the Pacquiao fight, I mean he looked like a ghost and was clearly completely finished. Margarito had just been demolished by Mosley and again was mega drained to make 150 plus had the perfect style to make Pacquiao look good. Mosley had been dominated by Mayweather (who took the Mosley fight after Mosley looked spectactular vs Margarito) and drew against Sergio Mora and then Pacquiao moved in for the kill. I think Pacquaio is a good fighter but his resume sucks compared to Floyd imo.
