Chad Dawson is currently the consensus #1 at 175 lbs after beating Bernard Hopkins last year, although questions remain whether he can keep that title following defeat to Andre Ward a weight below last September. Dawson defends his WBC belt against Adonis Stevenson next month.
On May 25th Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute clash in a battle of Canada, while Hopkins defends his IBF title against Karo Murat in July. WBO czar Nathan Cleverly looks set to finally fight Juergen Braehmer this summer.
Tony Bellew and Isaac Chilemba will rematch in a few weeks time with the winner (assuming there is one this time) set for a mandatory challenge against either Dawson or Stevenson.
Unbeaten punchers Sergey Kovalev and Eleider Alvarez look real talents to me and there's interest in the rest of the division with the likes of Tavoris Cloud, Andrezj Fonfara, Beibut Shumenov and Denis Grachev etc.
Where it gets real interesting is the thought of some of the top super-middleweights moving up. Elite talent Andre Ward may well join the division soon, with perhaps Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler joining him.
I guess the obvious answer is Andre Ward here but who do you see as having the most potential to become the next genuine champion in an intriguing light heavyweight division?
