He seems to hurt opponents or drop them but can't finish them, and yesterday he stung his guy a few times but couldn't get out of Aguilars octopus grip, but towards the end he was having even more success but still couldn't put the guy away. I don't think it's a lack of power per se, maybe poor finishing? or does he not step on the gas enough when he has his man hurt?

I think the guy he fought last night was particularly tough.

Cardle caught him with some really good shots and the guy never really looked to be in much trouble.

Is it a power issue? Hard to say, punches seemed to land pretty cleanly.

He did seem to throw himself into the shots a bit, seemed to be off balance a fair few times.

Maybe he needs to set himself more, maybe the shots aren't carrying his full power?

I don't think he punches particularly hard or is that good in any area tbg. Well he couldn't take him out with single shots and Aguilar was awkward enough to tie him up and not let him land too many in exchanges. Honestly I can't see him going very far, and he should find a weight class and stick to it as well. He weighed 142 last night and he's been as high as 149 but Sky seem to think he's a lightweight, and were also talking about 130.

i didnt realise his weight fluctuated that much! he might struggle to make 135. And ye Michael its hard to tell with how much tieing up there was, but surely a good finisher doesnt let that happen. I like Cardle but other prospects like Yafai seem to be going places a lot quicker, Yafai looked very good again imo, brutal bodyshots

Haven't seen this fight on TV yet but in the arena yesterday I thought he looked dreadful every time he had his man hurt/shaken. He just seemed to stand within punching range but without actually throwing anything and just allowing his opponent to grab hold of him, maybe he was looking for the one perfect shot to get the guy out of there because I can't think of what else he was trying to do.

Agreed with Jamie about Yafai too, I was telling my uncle all night that Yafai looks a real talent and to watch out for him, so was naturally quite pleased with his performance/

ye i know what you mean, maybe he isnt used to holding having come from the ams and doesnt expect it, but it was so easy for Aguilar, i thought he had some success toward the end when he threw hook over Aguilar's arms when reached out to hold or uppercuts through the middle but still didnt follow it up enough

Yafai looks like he was born to fight, real natural talent and can go places quickly

I said in the rbr that Cardle looked like a poor finisher, and he really is. Some of his shots landed flush at full power and didn't seem to have much effect, so his power isn't all that either.

For me Yafai is the most exciting prospect we have (I mean under 10 fights); early days I know but he does look pretty special.

Those body shots last night were exceptional.

Like his attitude in interviews as well.

Interesting that Sky have him ranked in the countries top ten for the weight already, quite an achievement after just four fights.

i think its deserved tbh, after his next bout get him an area title then english then british eliminator and just go from there, he can move up a level every fight at this pace

I agree Jamie, looking at the other names in the list I think I'd fancy him against quite a few of them already.

Matchroom seem keen to move him along quickly, which is great, British title in next couple of fights and world title within next ten.

There's been talk of Jason Booth being next for Yafai, I was against the idea of making that fight so soon but now I think he's probably ready for it and it would be a great test of just how good he is at this stage of his career. Hopefully he can fight again before Christmas, once early next year then Booth mid 2013.

Yes mate I think Booth would be a perfect fight for him.

Here is the top ten according to Seconds Out:

1 Jamie McDonnell Doncaster 19 - 2 British, European, Commonwealth
2 Stuey Hall Darlington 12 - 1 - 1 British, European, Commonwealth
3 Josh Wale Barnsley 14 - 3 - 1
4 Martin Ward Newcastle 14 - 1
5 Gary Davies St Helens 10 - 4 - 1
6 Craig Lyon St Helens 13 - 1 - 1 English
7 Martin Power Camden Town 22 - 6
8 Ryan Farrag Liverpool 6 - 1
9 Nathan Reeve Northampton 5 - 1
10 Scott Gladwin Halifax 4 - 0

I have to say that based on what I have seen in his last two outings my money would be on him against just about all of them!

I think these are out of date rankings. Scott Gladwyn is the guy yafai beat on the brook card and was 5-1 at the time so I don't know how old these are

What the fuck is up with those rankings? No Haskins for a start.

:eek:ops Sorry guys!

Come to mention it the list isn't quite right is it!

Still stand by my statement that Yafai would beat just about everyone in the top ten already. :bbb

Doesn't time his shots, punches in ones. Doesn't punch through the target and sit down on punches and turn the hips and shoulder into punch.

You watch his leads and counters he punches to land not hurt. He pulls the glove right back as soon as it lands. He needs to punch through and set his feet if you notice he's moving as he punches.

That and what Bryn said about finishing. Doesn't look impressive in that area. Good talent though he's got a lot to work on but he's got a good future domestically at the very least what he has to be careful of is allowing style to become something that holds him back from developing. He may need to tweak a few things, and watch how Martinez drives his shots in while on the move.
