In regards to the 40s/50s and even earlier.
The murderers row clan are renowned for not getting their shots at the world titles as well as the likes of Sam Langford before them. Many others too of course. A lot of people put this down to them being black but that can't be the whole story.
Looking back we still see guys like Sugar Ray Robinson, Beau Jack, Henry Armstrong, Ike Williams and many more holding titles and getting lots of chances in the big leagues as well.
So why were some of those guys favoured over others. is it good/bad management on the boxers parts, luck - being in the right place at the right time, mob favoured boxers? etc
