Simple thread.

I love to watch Boxer Punchers, like Joe Louis, like Ricardo Lopez.....my favorite style to watch probably.

So....how about you tell me more about your favorite boxer-punchers !

Obscure and non-ATG fighters are very Welcome !!! :thumbsup

I loved watching Lennox Lewis fight. Aside from using his size, boxing skills and terrific jab to his advantage, he could also be a brutal puncher, which is something he doesnt get quite enough credit for. His fights with Ruddock, Grant, Briggs, Botha and Golota are all great displays.

Ricardo Lopez is a good mention vic, I echo that.

One modern boxer-puncher who deserves a mention is Miguel Cotto, back in his 140/147. Very good boxing skills and a sledgehammer left hook.

I've always considered Trinidad a boxer-puncher, I dunno about you guys like. He's one of my favourite fighters.

Shozo Saijo (very much in the Arguello mode so more stalker-puncher ;))
Rocky Lockridge (well underrated IMO)
Juan Manuel Marquez (over Lopez, just because he's applying his incredible composite punching against better oppo')
Thomas Hearns (needs no explanation)
David Reid (have a soft spot for him, for just a few fights he was superb all things considered)
Hiroyuki Ebihara (southpaw sharp shooter, fluid hands and feet and devastating dig if he caught you right)
Veeraphol Sahaprom (very tidy technically and straight-up Muay Thai convert but used his right hand like a jab at times, hit well if not devastatingly)

I suppose Yoko Gushiken fits here, but for me he's just more of an all round technician who hits quite hard and can finish, not sure whether he fits really.

What would you describe Canelo Alvarez as, Is he a boxer puncher? Of course he's not in the same breath as some guys mentioned but as far as current boxers go I like his style.

@ScouseLeader Trinidad is one of my favourite fighters of all time too, hence my posting name and my dogs name
Oh shizzle, I never clocked that it was after Trinidad. I love tito, I said if I ever had a son that I'd call him Felix (and maybe nickname him Tito :yep) but that might be a little bit too far :D

haha, viva Tito Trinidad
How do you think Trinidad would get on vs Vernon Forrest in their primes at Welterweight, teets? I've been thinking about that one, but I'm definitely saying Trinidad myself so I'm not sure if it's thread worthy or is everyone gonna pick Trinidad?

I was a massive Forrest fan, when he lost to Mayorga the first time, even though he got stopped, I went to the boxing gym (Golden Gloves round by yours) and just tried to copy everything I saw Forrest do in round 2 when he went to war with Mayorga and looked brilliant. Forrest is known as a fine long range technician, and it's true, he had a sweet jab and the hooks and uppercuts that came behind it were the shit, he could fight and he could box, but that said, one thing that Forrest never really employed that much was lateral movement imo, and it was always lateral movement that was Trinidad's kryptonite when he was in his prime. Trinidad never really ever learned how to cut off the ring, but to be honest, I don't think it would be a massive problem against Forrest. They'd probably end up sharp shooting against one another, and I can only see it going for Trinidad ultimately, even if he hits the deck along the way. I reckon the action would be mad entertaining. It always amazes me how, when discussing historical fighters and fantasy match-ups, that people seem to always grossly understate how bad of an idea it would be for the majority of welerweights that have lived to go into a trade off with Tito Trinidad. For most mortals it's a death wish.

How do you see it going then Sports?

Great post mate. You've said half the things I was about to say myself! :yep. I completely agree with the lateral movement being Trinidads kryptonite, he never quite got past it and for a fighter who didn't really throw in combinations (just threw a couple of bombs and stepped back) he could never adjust really to a moving head. You mention Forrests lack of lateral movement and I honestly believe that's the only reason he lost to Mayorga who had a fucking field day whenever he had a rather rigid, long range fighter to deal with, but that's another story :Yep.

Yeah I completely agree they'd start sharpshooting pretty early into it, with Forrest setting up his shots with the jab whilst Trinidad just wings in his bombs from close up. Like you say he'd probably recieve his customary flash knockdown along the way but I think Trinidad would end it around the 8th round, Forrest didn't have a bad chin but he wouldn't be able to stay out of harms way and Trinidad hit like a mule so he'd be stopped eventually I reckon.

Trading with Trinidad is not a good idea at all, for any welterweight, or light middle for that matter. His punching power is nothing to fuck with!
