Strange one :think guess they are tapping into the Chinese market @Lilo

How do people think he will do?

Arum says he'll debut April 6th in Macau, Viloria also on the card against Estrada

I watched him live in the Olympics (ye sure im kind of a big deal) and he looked good, but not as good as when he won gold in Beijing, he was still a good mover but not quite as sharp and I thought the Thai nicked it in the final. Saying that he's still an elite amateur with two Olympic Golds and I'm sure he'll do well as a pro, but Viloria and Gonzalez are tough fights so he'll need to be fast tracked as his style wont age well

Very shrewd move from Top Rank. If this one does ok (or brings in the big boys in Chinese gambling to the casino) expect a Donaire/Pacquaio card to actually happen. UFC had a pretty big card out here a little while back so venue size is not a problem. Its the Chinese fighter that will bring in the high rollers from the mainland so this signing (or the world champion) is a bit of a must for this venture.

Very interested to see how much effort they put into this show, its their first one IIRC (for a while at least) and there'll be inevitable comparisons to the successful UFC card so I hope they push this hard.

Exciting times (for me!)

BoxingScene.com's Jake Donovan had previously reported that former super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (22-2-1, 19KOs) would return to the ring on April 6th in Macau against an opponent to be determined.

Vazquez's co-promoter Felix "Tutico" Zabala has advised us that a deal is close to being completed for Yasutaka Ishimoto (21-6) of Japan to be the opponent. WV2 will be defending his WBO International super bantamweight title. He won the WBO International title when he knocked out Jonathan Oquendo in October.

Another fight being seriously discussed is a WBO super featherweight clash with undefeated top rated contender Diego Magdaleno (23-0, 9KOs) challenging reigning champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez (26-1-2, 16KOs).

The card will have plenty of international flavor with two time Chinese Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming headlining the card against an opponent to be determined. Brian Viloria will defend his WBA and WBO flyweight titles against Juan Francisco Estrada and Vanes Martirosyan will also appear on the card.

@Lilo :think

Yep. I heard about Vasquez being on there. As I've said time and time again it seems weird at first but its really the way its going. For me they need bigger guys on the card other as Viloria and Zou are both very small guys. I'd expect a heavyweight fight to be put on there too.

Here's a decent article about the Macau situation:

http://www.boxinginsider.com/column...y-signal-macau-challenge-to-las-vegas-boxing/

Top Rank have gone to a lot of trouble to publicise Zou Shiming's signing, I'm sure Arum himself flew out to Beijing for the presser. Shiming is relocating to the US to train (with Roach and Diaz apparently). They are serious about this venture. This could be the start of a completely new direction IMO.

The only drawback I see at the minute is the time difference with America; this would surely affect PPV buys. America is 16 hours behind Macau which would mean the fight would have to take place in Macau on Sunday lunchtime to be primetime in the States. Does the positive tax differential (in Macau's favour) cover the anticipated loss in US PPV revenue? We also don't know how much Macau's casinos are prepared to pay for the fight, more than Vegas?

This is turning into a cracking little card, looks like it'll be a quality night out!

Brian Viloria vs Juan Estrada - WBA/WBC flyweight
Rocky Martinez vs Diego Magdaleno - WBO superfeatherweight

Wilfredo Vasquez Jr vs Yashutaku Ishimoto ( @dkos any good?)
Vanes Martirosyan vs Javier Francisco Maciel

Zou Shiming's debut.
Mlian Melindo (24-0 Filipino flyweight) vs TBA

And 3 other fights.

Godfather Bob estimates viewing figures of 400 million in China! :yikes

What you think of Shiming? He was sort of like I thought. Very amped up and wild. Amateurish slap-and-go. Roach has mentioned he's having to teach him the concept of body punching. He has the capacity to progress quickly, so we'll see...

He hasn't got any power and, although he is good on his feet, I can't see his boxing style being very effective in the pro's. It would be interesting in about 6 months time to see him in a 8/10 rounder against a Mexican gatekeeper or someone like Jaro/Megrino who won't stop walking him down. I can't see him dealing with pressure over a longer distance too well, TBH.

I have no doubt, however, that one of the governing bodies will somehow find him a 'world' title to win like Zhong at minimumweight. Money talks...
