I forgot he could just vacate the title and fight Chavez Jr. anyways. @Chatty and @KO-KING, went past my mind .

Anyways, the source says that DeGale will have to fight Dirrell for the title if Froch is stripped or vacates. Now that is the fight I'd like to see anyways.

I dont know what Jr was thinking signing with Haymon. He sounded confident that Haymon would resolve his contractual ties with Top Rank. Arum sounds confident they have 1 more fight with him. And Bob has also stated Froches promoter wouldn't go behind his back like that. Doesn't look good for Jr.

I cant see him fighting DeGale... He will have to decide what hes doing soon though, if they dont announce a fight in the next few weeks IMO he would of been out the ring too long... By the time training camp comes and goes he would of been out the ring over a year, which is surely too long for a fighter of his age...

The IBF are going back to their glory days of inception where they made Sulaiman look like the Pope.

He's fought two mandated fights back to back. How the fuck can he be expected to fight a third in his very next fight?

Boxing being boxing again, where some champions are allowed to get away with murder and some not, but then again Froch only fought once last year so it's not that surprising. Froch-Degale could fill another stadium in England for another big event I guess, but I understand that Froch is getting a bit old to fight 3 consecutive fights offering bad style match-ups for him. I'd undertand if he'd tell the IBF to fuck off and let Degale fight another guy for the title, while he fights a big name. Nothing left to prove for him.

It's only his "very next fight" because Froch has chose not to fight since Groves II. The rematch was 8 months ago, and a DeGale fight wouldn't realistically happen until at least March so you're talking 10 months there.

I agree mate, but I can't think of anyone recently who fought three mandos on the trot.Genuinely asking.
Hope fatherhood is still going well for you.

If Cotto fights Canelo in May,wouldn't that be around 11 months only to go straight in with someone who's a Jnr middleweight, who ironically lost his title to someone who hasn't fought a Jnr middleweight since?
And still holds the belt.

I don't see what relevance that has to this.

Would be very surprised if Froch took the Degale fight, it would be a good payday for him but not a massive one, and it's a seriously dangerous fight, and one Id pick DeGale to pull off, as style wise I think he's horrible for Froch. Froch has proved me wrong in the past so I wouldn't rule him out of course.

C'mon, it'd be a massive payday, after all in a loss he should've won, DeGale became bigger, and even without him talking up the fight Froch could sell out some big ass arena. While they cannot speak proper educated English they can trash talk a bit, so it would sell very good. Also, take Carl's perspective: no fighter without power came close of beating him, Ward's punches with his accuracy actually troubled Froch and I think slapping DeGale is a lesser risk from the Cobra's perspective. He'd make it an ugly rough fight with punches swinging and what can DeGale do to prevent it happening?

@Wallet

You're saying it's only his very next fight because he hasn't fought in the meantime.I'm saying that Cotto hasn't even signed for a fight yet and is talking about fighting Canelo in May,so why is it not relevant?
Him or Floyd aren't being forced into mandatories and Cotto is allowed to go 7 months without signing for a fight when in all probability,he'll fight someone who's never fought at 160 in May.
How is that not relevant to the point you made?

I think he means that Cotto has the WBC belt while Froch has the IBF, and since they are different sanctioning classes, it's not all that relevant to this discussion. Supposedly, the IBF is really strict. I remember they forced Klitschko to defend against Pulev when Klitschko wanted to unify with Stiverne. I think there was a thread on it where people thought Klitschko's petition or something to the IBF would allow him to fight Stiverne and have Pulev waiting on the sidelines again, but the IBF was having none of that.

This.

There hasn't been a mandatory defence of the WBO 147lb title since 2008, but likewise, that's got no relevance to this discussion.

He should go for it. Its a better win legacy wise but it won't be easy. A win over DeGale and he retires a legend and one of the best SMWs. Groves and DeGale are two guys will have good careers. And I don't see Chavez being an easy fight. This guys chin is granite. If Froch can't hurt him , he's going to be walked down.
