He still went the distance tho...against a devastating puncher like a prime Tito, and all this despite being old, shot and a total coke head by the time Felix got to him.
i dont know how anyone can say that whitaker did not have a good chin or good punch resistance having never been stopped

fought seven undefeated fighters, 22 title fights including four hof fighters in their prime not moving up in weight or made to fight at some bogus catch weight

confusing to know what some people are even thinking when they post stuff here

Let me help you, he slipped 2 punches vs Marquez in round 3
Thanks bro.

You know this is actually a good opportunity to show the subtlety of fighters we commonly refer to as unskilled or even bums. Even though he takes plenty of shots he certainly slips a fair amount that your literal average fighter wouldn't be able to escape. It's why the phrase "zero/no defense" makes me cringe.

Well yeah he wasn't a complete bum, he did go to the top level so he had some defence, I can't remember the name, but couple years ago this korean or jap fighter who was a regular on Friday Night Fights, who could only seem to brawl with his chin in the air, fought a poor mans version of himself and KO'd the guy in like 2 rounds, People often ignore that boxing is about levels, a guy with no defence at the top level Like Katsidis could have been a decent defencive fighter vs Bums and journeymen, thats why I always hated when People said Maidana had no Boxing Skill, I mean you could look at the guy and see he had plenty of skills, only recently as soon as he joined Garcia he's gotten more recognition, but all he's done is, is use the jab he always had a bit more.

But still a 6 min Defence Tribute to Katsidis - good Luck... And it has to be genuine defencive moves, not simply where the opponent just misses him because of poor accuracy...

Exactly, that's a good example too, people forget there are levels and perhaps imagine themselves in there doing half as well as the dude they're shitting on

Yeah I thought that myself. It can't just be misses. Has to be a block/parry/slip/backstep/sidestep.

Most probably never been in the ring, now am not claiming to be some great fighter, but atleast I've sparred good AM fighters and just generally sparred, to be fair I never got hit that often...I often 'Imagined' myself like a slick defensive fighter like floyd, but in reality all I did was avoid punches by getting the fuck out of the way...Haven't done shit in few years, I still don't know a lot about me in a fight, I don't even know if Ive got a good chin (i've got X-rays that show I have extra thick bones around the mouth and jaw area..if that matters) I've never been dropped - only time I've been stunned is when I relied on my reflexes and got caught with a right straight to the eye - I was doing a Vitali impression :patsch, I remember everything about that punch, fucking blinded my right eye for like 20 seconds with this bright light (thinking about it i might have had a near death experience..), it made that noise of when a football (soccer) which is filled to max with air gets kicked - hard to discribe it...that 'boinggggg' noise if you get what I mean. I just stood there like it was nothing - there was no follow up punches, so I guess I did a decent job of looking like I was fine. I reached my level then...and it was not even sparring against a pro.

But own story aside, I think when most talk about this guy has no chin e.g. khan - they are comparing with other fighters of that level, or this guy has no defence e.g. Katsidis, is generally being compared with other guys on that level. Problem is lot forget about levels and think a guy has bad chin at any level of the game, or Katsidis would be a punchbag against most not just guys Like JMM

If you include ability to recover as part of the chin category (and you should), than Sweet Pea's chin would have to be considered above average by some margin. Never stopped or seriously buzzed for any length of time. His only stoppage loss was due to a torn rotator cuff (or a similar type of injury).

His chin's legit.

maybe the guy was referring to lance whitaker as opposed to pernell whitacker
