My dad and I would watch Friday Night Fights broadcast live from Madison Square Garden on our old black and white TV in the late 50's until he died in 61.

By then I had already heard of one of my uncle's exploits in boxing while in the Navy during WWII. He was a fleet champion around flyweight at the time and when he got discharged he would often box in shows around our home town in what were known as "smokers"------more or less underground stuff and not sanctioned events.

Boxing was still in its heyday when I was a kid around my town with many gyms featuring both amateur and pro boxers and there were boxing shows a few times a month locally. Now, pfffftt, not much boxing going on at all for the past 15 years or more.

Was it a specific fight?
A specific fighter?
Watching with your dad?
What did it?
Mike Tyson.

The sole reason I ever got into boxing. When he slaughtered Trevor Berbick to become the youngest hw champ in history I was hooked. Couldn't get enough of his fights.

It was my uncle who go me into him, he videoed that Berbick fight and I watched it over and over.

Us kids were all rocky fans and Tyson was a real life clubber lang.

Basically happened in steps.....

Watching all of the Rocky movies around '91 and '92

The hype during the first 2 Holyfield-Bowe fights from other kids that were following boxing at the time(I was in 6th and 7th grade and I grew up in NY so there was no lacking of a boxing fan base in that time and place)

The Evander Holyfield sega genesis game

Solidified during that mid 90s time period of Tyson getting out of prison, winning those first few fights and then losing to Holyfield, watching "Tuesday night fights" regularly, Roy Jones Jr., Oscar De La Hoya and other top fighters at the time

I don't think I'll ever see anything like Mike Tyson in my lifetime ever again.

I was born in 1968, but I have memories of Ali's fight with Norton when his Jaw was broken. I was always drawn in by the mic work of Ali and Howard Cosell. The Alin cartoon was also a draw for me. There wad a neighborhood guy who was also a boxing fan. He gave me his collection of Big Book of Boxing, Ring and KO magazines. There were hundreds of issues, and I read them all. After that I was always a boxing fan.

Casually with my Dad as a kid (born 1991). Got Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe, VK - 95-03. Then as it moved further away from normal TV, I kind of drifted away from the sport. I moved to university in 2011 and slowly got into boxing again to be a casual fan by 2015. I moved back to NI in 2016 and watched Lebedev vs Gassiev - absolutely fucking stoked on that. Been downhill since!

I thought Lennox was the toughest man alive as a kid. 6'5'', 240, huge power. Remember my Dad going; you should have seen Foreman in the 70s!

My Dad was a huge boxing fan but I was never really into it, then in 2004 Tyson fought Williams and my Dad kept saying Tyson was finished and Williams was tough and he would beat Tyson and put ÂŁ1000 at 6/1 on the fight, so me and my brother who had just turned 18 put ÂŁ100 on each or whatever we could afford at the time and sure as shit he lost, I watched that fight about 10 times having bought the PPV, that lead on to me rewatching Tysons glory days and getting into the current boxing scene.

I just can't get enough boxing, seriously. I have a trader who I use for high quality DVDs, he's been supplying me fights since 2004, and I mean stuff like the bloke in the sound van at fights like Hagler - Hearns, Hearns - Leonard.

I split with my girlfriend a year or so ago, all I wanted was from the relationship was my boxing DVDs, my designer clothing, my guitar and my skateboard. She got everything else, house, BMW, all the money. I got my boxing DVDs, and thank fucking hell for that.
