"It's got to be run by somebody," Hopkins said of Golden Boy Promotions' now murky future. "But it's going to be very, very difficult for Golden Boy to keep the credibility of the brand without Richard Schaefer.

"A guy like Richard - and let me say that we don't always agree on everything - really can't be replaced. I'll reiterate: Richard Schaefer cannot be replaced. Things will continue to be run (at GBP), but they won't - can't - be the same. Richard is a man who is stern when he needs to be stern, and fair when he needs to be fair. It's hard to find people like that in boxing. He's one of the biggest and most respected players there is. Even the people who don't care for him too much on a personal level have got to respect him when it comes to the way he does his job.

"Think about it. Who really ran Golden Boy? I'm not talking about popping up in the office once or twice a year. Who was there, doing the deals, on a day-to-day basis?"

"I'm not under contract to Golden Boy," stressed Hopkins

There was one more potential surprise offered by Hopkins, who professed admiration for Haymon, who could become part of whatever remains of his twilight as an active fighter. That statement further suggests that boxing's ageless wonder could soon be parting ways with Golden Boy.

"I have great respect for him, and he has great respect for me, going back to the day when he came into boxing with one fighter, my friend, Vernon Forrest, `The Viper,'" Hopkins said of Haymon, the Boxing Writers Association of America's 2013 Manager of the Year. "I was on the other side from him when Al was representing Jermain Taylor.

"I don't have a contract with Al Haymon, but I wouldn't mind having one because he knows the business and he knows how to make the moves to get you where you need to be."
what I got out of this

*low morale at GBP since the owner/co-founder barely fulfilled his own duties

*Richard was more than just a CEO, he was the co-founder and responsible for the startup's success

*Bernard got no contract w/ GBP and believes Haymon does best for the fighters

I wish we didn't know any of these fucken suits & just watch the fights like we did back in the day.
As a fan I DGAF who makes the most or who's bootyhole is being reamed in negotiations ect...

Sounds like the Swiss Banker was one of those jack offs that wants to be the boss/owner but doesn't have the cash to get it done. So he gets other people to put up the dollars and then isolates the majority owners so he can act like the de facto boss. Hate those fools

well swiss banker didn't isolate majority owner Oscar enough because he pleaded with swiss to stay hours before he opted to resign

Oscar shot himself in the foot and made a bad business decision. TR was dying, there was no need to risk his company just to appease uncle bob. So far it looks like it will be a rash business decision that will be bad for boxing.

I'd say it's good for boxing due to the increased competition

bad for Oscar

Nailed it with this post. I agree 100% with you, homie.

As a fan, the only thing I give a fuck about are good fights, that's it. Quite frankly, this whole promotional bullshit is starting to bore me, and I'm beginning to care less about Welterweight and its surrounding divisions.. As soon as JMM (the only guy I truley care about at those weights) retires, I'll probably strictly focus just on the lower weights, and every now and then tune in at welter to see if there's an interesting match up.

I'm specially gonna focus on 112lbs and its surround divisions...with guys like Estrada, Gonzalez, Yaegashi, Viloria, Ioka, Inoue, Segura, T. Marquez, Nietes, Narvaez, Cuadras and them, you got a bunch of excellent match ups without having to worry about promotional bullshit getting in the way. :deal

Or Oscar got Schaefer to fun everything because he actually knew what he was doing
