So is he willing to go to HBO?
I wonder if he's even able. I really doubt Showtime loves this plan with how much they invested in Hopkins in his 'build-up fights'. Hopkins didn't do great numbers either so they were banking on an eventual Hopkins-Stevenson match.

Is Hopkins more with GB or Haymon? I think I remember him siding with Schaefer and kind of trashing Oscar when they split.

How so? Stevenson is easily the bigger fight regardless and can be more easily made.
What I meant is : Hopkins was negotiating with Stevenson for a fight. The negotiations seem a bit chaotic, so maybe to give himself more leverage in the negotiations (for more money maybe? IDK really..), Hopkins hints he could fight Kovalev instead, and that would leave Stevenson without any credible opponent for a while.

Well Hopkins options are currently limited. Stevenson isn't available until 2015 due to legal issues, so it's either fight his mandatory for peanuts in another meaningless fight or take a nice paycheck in unifying with Kovalev.

Hopkins has nothing to really lose. Even if he's stopped early he has a perfect excuse, he's almost 50 for Christ sake and Kovalev looks like a freakin monster at the moment. Losing now wouldn't really effect his legacy, it's set it stone. Also at his age he's probably looking to make as much money as he can as quickly as possible as it could all end at any moment, at his age he could be shot before you know it. He doesn't have the time to wait around for Stevenson to sort out his legal issues and Hopkins doesn't want to waste time by continually fighting nobodies.

Even if Hopkins loses, does it really rule out a Stevenson fight next year. Stevenson doesn't seem to want to face Kovalev and if Hopkins loses on points it could still be a viable fight just not as lucrative as it would have been before.

Kovalev is over rated Hopkins takes him to school

Even if Hopkins gets stopped he might still be able to get a Stevenson fight.
Provided it's not a brutal stoppage.

Legal troubles?
It's a bit of a mystery to me what his actual legal issues are whether they are with a promoter, manager or something else but it's what Hopkins said when he called out Kovalev. He tried to make the Stevenson fight didn't look like it was going to happen due to these legal issues and so called out Kovalev for a fight. We haven't heard anything from Stevenson since Hopkins called out Kovalev so I assume what Hopkins said is correct.

I think he's talking about Main Events suing him, his promoter and Haymon for not fighting Kovalev, which sounds to me like a pile of nothing but I'm not a lawyer.
